Windscreen replacement and side trims.

Windscreen replacement.

You would think needing a replacement windscreen would be a simple matter.
Book it in, get it done, job sorted, pay and go.

Well, that is what we did last year, thought no more about it until a recent trip where on the motorway the side 'A’ pillar trims and top sealing strip started to separate from the car. Well the emergency was averted with a good application of Gorilla tape.
So today I took a look at what the windscreen fitting muppets had actually done.

So, instead of popping off the pillar trims, which are fitted with single use trim clips, and using new clips to put them back on, the muppet left all the broken clips in situ and just glued the trim back over them...what a plank.
The result being that at speed, in the heat these trims try to fly off! And as they do the airflow gets under the top seal of the screen which also tries to escape.

So a cautionary tale when using windscreen fitters. Stare at them when they work and make sure they use new clips to re-fit the trims.....oh and the front cowl as well!

Depends where you take it, I guess. The guys I took mine to (insurance covered, no fuss) were an official pilkington shop and did read the instructions and made sure they had all the necessary clips before attempting the job Whistle

I guess it is a lesson learned.
I went to a major player and made the gross error of thinking they had a clue!
