Ol’Yog is going in for minor surgery… transfer box & more |
|
Tiz the season to spend on ol’ yog, tra la la la laaa, la laaa laa laaaaaa sorry
@ 210000 miles the chain in the transfer box is slipping on hard pull aways, then the tinkling noise for a mile or so
Case is oozing fluid too, and clunky driveline with a rumble at times too,
Got myself a salvaged unit from Oxford breakers with a bit of warrantee on it but also paid through PayPal just in case…
Last week took car to venture 4x4 for alignment but was postponed as both rear pan-hard rods were seized and the bushes were degraded
Front tracking would of needed a lot of heat
And a weep from front diff seal for n/s driveshaft
Box of parts from AF
Pan hard rods
Track rods
Trackrod ends
Boots etc
Diff seal
Fluid for transfer box
Car was rear steering today which was quite unnerving
Hopefully this will sort it out,
Not impressed with the gg at3 in standing water (I’m a duratrac fan, but couldn’t find any 20’r)
Next year will be new airbags & dampers all round, as I suspect they are originals too
Lower arms are polybushed front and rear, will see how it is after all that, and will decide if that will need replacing too…late next year

Car is transformed
And that’s without a 4 wheel alignment booked in for this Monday
My local indi did a sterling job as always
Pan hard rods were fudged (not quite his word)
No more chain slippage from transfer box, I will be getting the old one refurbed by a professional with a view to probably keep whilst I Make sure this replacement is ok
Then flog on but all depends on the maths
Changing from high to low and vice versa is now mere ‘click click’ whereas before it was quite a long process of clacking and clicking
Already done a few miles in it today to chew up the at3
