Did the drive to Italy thing this year.. where are you thinking of heading which parts? Have you booked it all yet?
We stayed in some fabulous places including castles etc.. all done on the cheap via Booking.com
Headed over the Alps first to Como, with a couple of days stay there to recover from the initial days long drive, then down to La Spezia for the Cinque Terre villages, down to Siena (previously did Florence) down to Sorrento, a week in a villa near Amalfi, Positano etc, back up to Umbria then back to the Lakes and Garda…back over the Alps via Stelvio etc…
Brilliant trip…thoroughly recommend the James Bond villas and roads..spectacular!

Agree. I’ve been to Milan three times this year with an add on to Lake Bled and back via Austria and Germany etc
Agree about doing the Bond passes. We drove the Firka pass in Switzerland down to Simplon and got the train into Italy before driving to Lake Majorie. Really cool.
If you’re worried about your crank, you need to put it in perspective. If it’s going to go, it could go in the UK equally as it could abroad but the reality is it won’t. I take the view that you can only deal with what’s in front of you.
Check the oil, fill the washer fluid, get Recovery insurance and just go and enjoy it. It’ll be a great trip. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Hi Farmer Chalk
I’m looking at something similar this year, at least as far as Liguria (probably somewhere near La Spezia). Is there an issue driving in Switzerland in an older diesel (2008 D3) given their clean air policies!
Also, any advice re doing a long European road trip with a dog as I’ve not done this before - usually fly & hire a car.
Many thanks. Cheers,
Jez
