"Vehicle fault. System shutting down"

Reading some of the threads, this is either going to be easy to fix, or a write off... depending on where the gremlins live, or if they can even be found.

AC goes off. Hazards come on. Everything inside the car dies and won't crank.

I don't have a GAP IID, but had a look at the faults on my cheapo OBD2, and there's a bunch of errors about "lost connection to instrument panel". Is this expected even with a fault appearing on, say, cables getting chafed in the rear arch?

Also, there's been an intermittent error on the dash when this happens saying "Check pads". So I'm not sure if the wiring somewhere near a wheel arch is toast. Or if this is also expected when the instrument panel is knackered.

Another also, the battery voltage might be slightly low - just letting it sit for a few hours before I go and recheck it, but OBD dingle reckoned it was about 12.0, dipping below that occasionally... but it does start up just fine pretty much all the time. It's >14.0 when it's running. I'm wondering if low voltages might be a problem.

I don't have a jack yet, so I can't get into the rear arch to have a good luck, so I'm tempted to get this booked in at the local LR specialists (not official LR). But does anyone have any recommendations for a non-mechanic to look at before I do?

Edit: I found a cable that's loose in the OSR. Looks like this: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post2200499.html Half wondering if that getting a bit soggy might be causing the brake pad error. Wondering now if these are related....

Update: New battery didn't fix it

New battery installed. Didn't fix it. Still blew up halfway down the road.

I did notice some damp in the footwell passenger side, maybe something is dead there. Literally every error on the OBD is "failed to communicate with instrument cluster" though... suspecting that, as directed by all the threads I've found. Though I'm not sure if that error will occur when something else explodes or not
