A LR recon would not be my first choice unless it was a brand new unit (not recon), but then I also have the resources to rebuild myself with my choice of components.

I appreciate you may not have this option and so your choice may be very limited. I believe there was a waiting time for new engines some time ago, but I can't say if new blocks are available now rather than recon.

Others on here (DM et al) might know if this is an option. Thumbs Up

A pal just had his D5 engine rebuilt after a piston seized, and warranty company said No..
He used this company in Barking, Essex and is very pleased.
It wasn't cheap- like nearly 6k, but they've been top rate on customer service, advising on the run in period and a visit for checkout after set mileage, and oil change etc.
All what you'd expect really.
I've seen the photos of their work, and having done these jobs myself, they know what they're doing, and are clean and tidy.
Fault finding, cleaning and checking components all appear to be good.

thks Auer Land Rover Germany are indeed suggesting the new short block route, I am scared waiting for their quote, and the problem being even with the JLR guarantee is that it willl only be for the parts not the labour

Love that very tidy 2 post hyd lift as there's no "fixed" posts to get in your way when opening the doors!

so hopefully pick her up tom, all shiny and new seems JLR dont actually provide a full written guarantee of the new engine as the invoice represents the warranty, don't think this will hold much water if I ever want to sell the car within 2 years....

furthermore seems a new passenger side (not passenger front) airbag is required after body off chassis, seems crazy to me as is the price of such item and as airbags cannot be shipped internationally by a parts specialist, you are fked once again

not sure what else can go wrong really as just about everything has.....its like a 1970's French car but you never know, Italy on Sunday morning, the Simplon pass is still closed after landslides 2 weeks ago

1970's French cars weren't bad it's just the mechanics trying to work on them didn't understand the technology. (eg Citroen)

As far as I can tell little has changed on that front, except now the cars in question are no longer French! Whistle

So we went to collect the car today, I have had Summer Covid last week, my lovely wife currently has it. We also fortunately also own a 2018 RR Velar HSE D300 its a dream to drive even on 21inch wheels but we are a family of 5 with a very socialiable Spinone dog and zillions of relatives so a 7 seater is required and the Velar is just too small for big families with a dog.

Checked before we went late morning all good, so set off at lunchtime. Arrived circa 2 pm and the car is still in one of the circa 15 service bays (it is a big dealership).

They suddenly have a problem with the handbrake, flashing lights wont park engage, but will engage in an emergency stop when driving, so safe to drive, but needs to go back AGAIN after the trip to Italy

so what we really need is a Velar which has 7 seats and as much inside/luggage space as a Disco 4

Last 2 years total maintenance as we have done all the timing belts etc we are GBP 30k in, wtf its like a Ferrari or Lambo
