D4 disco 5.0 V8
Hi all
Looks like i have just sold my 4.2 v8 jag and looking to upgrade the daily from my leggy D3 to either a newer D4 (2016 landmark) or what is really appealing right now is to buy a 2012 jap import 5.0 v8. my man maths calculator says i can run the v8 for the same as the deasil as i don't have to pay £1500 a year to cover crank snapping warranty woes. Jap imports also have the bonus of being clean as a whistle underneath. plan would be to buy a good one and do the chain as a precaution etc. I have had both the 6 speed box and also the 8 speed but the 8 speed was in a L322 4.4 tdv8. Anybody s experience's of both in the disco 4 appreciated. I actually prefer the proper gear stick of the 6 speed.
question is on pricing. would i be over paying to buy one of the one s currently on auto trader, 2 with one dealer are 24-25k and another at 29k! looking at the tracker these has all sat not sold for ages so there is a worry there about ever being to resell if i had to. i know they are rare and a niche market but are these prices fair?
i did go and see one and it was very nice but still worried about paying £24k for a 12 year old car. are these prices about right or has the market dropped?
any advice from current owners much appreciated.
oh final thing do they have the same size brakes as the deasil versions? I think white but with those 18 inch compotive alloys and decent tyres would look great (i don't like big 20 inch wheels)
cheers PAul

Does anyone know when production of the RHD 5.0 D4 stopped?
Finding a good low mileage example, adding Car Play etc. and getting it rustproofed certainly has an appeal.
I’ve never actually seen one, but I think they run 19” standard D4 rims. So I am guessing that the brakes are standard D4, which are better than the older D3 V8 brake set up. Regardless, the Compomotive PD1881’s should fit, as no doubt will the other aftermarket 18” rims.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

have you been to see any of the current ones for sale?
I saw the white one in bradford. seemed like a decent car but not sure on pricing. I think at 22k i would buy it but that would break my number one rule of car buying (never buy a car from a place beginning with B lol!)
dealer says it would have 3 month warrenty but i would have to take it back there which basically means no warrenty lol

stopped in 2013 i believe. I am keen to find out the difference between the 2010-2013 cars and the later 2016 cars other than the gearbox were there any improvements
yes the one i saw was like a new car underneath! that is worth it weight in gold for a 12 year old car! especially where i live

Total Price includes shipping to Southampton on a RORO (container costs more) and insurance. No experience whatsoever with them, other than having occasionally looked at the site in the past:
The red one is on small rims, but of course the brakes may have been modified.

There’s lots of online guides and videos about importing cars from Japan and what needs to be done and when.

Even with VAT, Duty and the cost of modifications it’s a lot of car for the money. Albeit one that’s 11/12 years old.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I have looked at importing a series 3 Daimler Double 6 in the past but felt a little overwhelmed at the procedure.
Some of the cars from Japan are in immaculate condition and low miles.
I may look again.

I have a 4.0 v8 petrol defender NAS RHD prototype. And have toyed with the idea of selling and buying a 5.0 disco.
However, I always stop myself as I believe the defender will sell better and hold more value.
Steve. You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!
