Missing Low Ratio Option

Hi All.

I have come across a 2014 Discovery 4 3.0 without the option of selecting low box on the panel. The box is obviously there but the rocker switch location is blanked off.

Everything I can find online seems to suggest that all Disco 4/LR4 vehicles came with low ratio.

Anyone heard of this before and more importantly, anyone heard if it is possible to retrofit with switches, wiring and Nanocom?

Thanks.

Depends on model and perhaps the region, too, I guess.

For certain the SCV6 came without even the option for 1-2 years and after that one had to specifically order it. You don’t need low range in a mall crawler…. Whistle

Thanks Kajtzu.

Fair point on the mall crawler but I did use the low box on my recently sold (sob) LR3 V8 in the deserts of Jordan and the wilds of Pakistan.

Hoping to now use the new LR4 in a similar fashion in the Caucuses, so would miss the lack of low ratio. Diff lock I can live without as the 'tronics seem do do a decent job of that.

Hoping to be able to retro fit.

If you’re looking for SCV6, you should be able to find the low range in either model year 2015 or 2016 vehicles. As you noted yourself, easy to spot since there won’t be a blank in the panel in front of the gearbox selector.

No idea on retrofitting. For SCV6 2013 and 2014 I don’t think the two speed gearbox option existed at all. Rolling Eyes

Good luck Thumbs Up

Well, it was made clear to me to source the model I wanted as retro fitting would be a major undertaking… if even possible as the wiring harness is different.
So, my 2015 does have the 2 speed.

As I understand it, the only option of full time diff lock is through the terrain response system.

Thanks, I suspect you may be right.

Will continue to investigate in the hope that the loom will have blanked off connectors at the appropriate points, as LT continued to offer offer low range selection as a HD option. If so, I may be able to get away with adding the actuator, xfrer box cpu and button panel.

Will share findings on here.

As an aside, majority of D4.5 models in Ireland are classed as N1 vehicles meaning 5 seats, commercial tax and no low range box. The middle row seats were different from the 7 seat models as well, most were the GS spec, but called XE spec here. The lack of low range box in these 'crew cabs' always seems odd. All the HSE models were 7 seat with low range.
