Problem with Gearbox

I tried to look for directions on the forum for my gearbox problem, but I didn't succeed. I have to get lost among the hundreds of messages, I don't know the keywords...

Here is my problem:
I have had a leak of box oil for some time, without being able to precisely identify the origin.
Until now, I was doing the complement.

The situation has changed after a prolonged non-use of the disco3 for months :
I have difficulty mobilizing the gear lever. I can reverse, but it's impossible to shift gears. The selector does not activate and the "D" is not displayed.
So I tried to make the oil supplement. The transition of the reverse gear and the Neutral position are easier, but it is still impossible for me to switch gears in D or Sport mode.

I have the impression that the oil does not pass for speeds 1 and above.
Are you thinking about a solenoid problem?

Have you ever had such a problem?

Are you saying that the gear lever is hard to move to select a position, if so have you checked the gear selector cable swivel joint on the gearbox. Check this post out by DM.

Hello Flack,

A little return from my situation.

I had indeed seen the post but I thought it was not the same problem because for them the block was in Drive position...

But I followed your advice and I thank you for it!

Indeed, the "mechanical part" was completely rusty. I disassembled everything, and it was not easy to separate the axis of rotation which was almost welded by rust.

Great mechanical cleaning, anti-rust, and grease before reassembly.

At the top! The handle of the gearbox moves with the little finger now... Rolling Eyes

If you have an oil leak do not ignore it, get it sorted before you start having serious gearbox problems. Thumbs Up

Yes, I take the gearbox oil leak problem seriously.

Tomorrow, with a friend who has a car lift, we will take a closer look and try to identify where the leak may come from.

I have already checked that there is no leak around the electrical connector of the box, which seems ok to me.

Do you have any clues? Some points to check?

It should become obvious once you have it on the lift if it's the gearbox that is leaking. The obvious culprits are the mechatronic connector, oil pan seal, oil cooler pipe seals, transfer case / output shaft seal, torque converter oil seal. Big Cry

It could of course be a leak from the top of the engine dripping down onto the transmission. Typically if that's the case it's usually a manifold seal that has failed, the vacuum pump oil seal, or in rare cases a head gasket oil leak. Thumbs Up
