I was going to ask whether a Q7 had been considered. Very roomy with a good load space at the back .
One of my old bosses had a lovely Audi, had a red badge on it and borrowed it one weekend and Jesus wept that thing was seriously quick
Then he had an estate and was very roomy and must confess interior was very nice
Wouldn’t mind test driving a Q7 to see how they compare to a D4 including there off road ability

I looked at the GL & GLE before giving the Disco the nod. Mind you, they were 4K & 2K(+) dearer from the dealerships than said Disco. Aye, the Merc 'off-road pack' was difficult to find except in 2014 versions (Euro 5) but they still commanded 27K+ two years ago with circa 100K on the clock too, the cheeky ! I did test drive the 2017 3.0 GLE and thought it was fab (& fast) but as soon as sat in my first D4 I thought, 'I could live here...'. Nuff-said, jobs a good-un, etc.... I am now 6months beyond D4 ownership.
I stayed with LR and now have a DiscoSport.
Lovely to drive and 45mpg is a nice bonus..................
............but its just a car, where my D4 was, well, a D4 - there's nothing like it!2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us
2006 D3 - no longer with us and sadly missed
2010 D4 alas no more, but a lovely colour (Nara)
2016 D4 departed
2022 DiscoSport 45mpg, but its not a D4

Isn’t the Q7 basically a Touareg with a “German design” interior? While the Cayenne is a Touareg for people who insist on having a prancing pony on the bonnet?

I never got to look at a Toureg last time I thought about replacing. I went into the local VW dealership after wandering around their car park to find one to show my wife. Hundreds of cars but no Toureg. Went in and spoke to the receptionist who'll looked at me very strangely. She'd never heard of the model. Eventually spoke to a Salesman, who basically said, they never get them in ! Didn't even offer the option of a new one. All very strange. This was 2021.
We did see a Q7, which looked enormous with the seats down . But not quite as high as the D4. Never got to test drive it as my wife then hgot COVID . The XC90 was the only other car with a near comparible boot, but didn't get on with that. Too much reliance on central screens for everyday driving functions.Gary
