looking to move a 2015 D5. Just had a new engine put in by LR and considering moving it with the full new engine warranty and getting a D5. Anyone jumped into a D5 from the D4, and how would you advise in the experience. This is a daily driver.

If you’re getting a used one keep in mind it’ll have the same diesel engine as the D4 until MY21 (I think) which is when they switched to Ingeniums.

I switched from a 2013 D4 to a 2020 D5. Keep in mind I only had the D4 for about 6 weeks! Really liked the look and shape of the D4 but missed the mod cons I had in my 2020 Wrangler and the Wife's Xc90 so I plumped to switch over with a LR warranty. I don't regret it, soooo nice to drive and I've got the assurance of a warranty to fall back on so I start the car with a lot more comfort than I did with the D4. Only thing I regret is not getting the petrol.

After 2 D3’s and 2 D4’s, I really liked my D5, right up to the point it’s ingenium engine went bang ☹️
It was all covered by LR despite being way out of warranty but lost confidence in it afterwards, so went with a new XC90.
But it was still a really good car, did everything I wanted from it and apart from large load capacity of the boxy D4 was a nicer drive than the D4.

What size engine was in the D5?- for a guess 2ltr. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Things I seem to remember for reading feedback on this forum: I’ve heard the D5 isn’t quite as practical/boxy at the back for loading. I also thought I heard the rear seats don’t fold completely flat like the D4. Anyone got info or an opinion on that? Some have also said the rear seats are not comfortable.
My Indy told me yesterday that late D4s are going for more money than D5s. Gary

2015 has the same TDV6 risks as the D4. Also the middle row of seats aren't great, particularly if you're tall.
I went from a D4 to XC90, which was an amazing car. I looked long and hard at the D5 but it just didn't do it for me. The post 2020/21 D5 is a much better proposition with the 3.0l Ingenium engine. Also, they reconfigured the middle row of seats. It also has the latest PiviPro software which is pretty good.

Had a D3, 4 and 5.
I find the D5 fine, but if a used car, I wouldn’t have one without a full main dealer service history and a LR warranty. It doesn’t cover everything, but it’s the best on the market. A years cover with breakdown cover is over £1k and depending on the age of the vehicle, goes up from there.
I got a wheel bearing replaced recently and if I’d been paying for it I was told it would have been £700. Also had a new engine coming up for two years ago, I didn’t ask how much that would have been. All been okay since.
The rear seats don’t lie completely flat, but I’ve never had a problem bunging stuff in. You just take account of it if loading something heavy.
Never had any complaints about the rear seats not being comfortable, but you could say that about any car on a long journey.
Would I have another one? Yes, but the new prices are particularly high and running it is never cheap. I also think LR are treating their customers terribly these days, but that’s general in the motor trade.
I’ll keep it another year or two then jump ship to Volvo I think. That said, I’ve been threatening to do that the past 10 years and never done it. I think there’s better value for money out there.

I had a D3 and then a D4 for a few days short of ten years in total. Then I moved to a D5 about six weeks ago. The only thing about it which slightly irks me is the turning circle is two feet wider. Other than that, it’s so much better - night and day.
The only engine to consider is the 3.0 straight six which I think came in in 2020\2021. Don’t go for the two litre, there are well publicised problems with it. That being said, the V6 is OK provided you keep up with the service schedule- it’s basically the same as the D4.
The second row seats don’t go quite flat, but for me it isn’t a problem. I have no complaints about their comfort either. Whilst I am on that subject, why would it really matter anyway? How often do you personally sit in the back 😜?
As already mentioned, go for a later model with the PiviPro nav and extended warranty. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.
D4 gone!
