I have just removed the black plastic external A-pillar trim because it was not sitting properly. Underneath was a mass of broken connectors and mastic.
I am wondering if this may be the cause of water ingress to my footwell (sunroof tubing all fine) because the trim clip holes are exposed.
I have removed the inner trim and there is water amongst the wiring etc.
Is water ingress to the cabin through these holes possible? Discovery 4 3.0 HSE Lux, 2015

Yes, it is. There is a TSB for replacing the original clips BUT they’re also supposed to be replaced every time the trim is accessed and removed.
Edit: This TSB is for the D3, https://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/u...0pdf~0.pdf but as far as I know it applies to the D4, too. The parts might be different, though, the superseded repair kit is LR077843 as described in this thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic193454.html
Also some people sikaflex the clips in place. Personally I did not do so nor did the guys at the local Pilkington glass center when they replaced the windscreen. But they also said that their notes state clips must be replaced every time.

Yes, went through precisely the same scenario with mine.
New LR A-pillar. moldings fixed the issue. This time I installed them as I didn’t want them to be slapped on without care, ending in the same situation I found them in.
FWIW, I added 2 layers of the felt? washers to each clip. In a hope to keep it snug and waterproof. 2015 LR4 HSE Lux Aintree Green

Thank you for the tip. I have a large sack of the plastic trim pins as I romp through them like water on our ageing LRs and have ordered a supply of the felt washers as there are other places they will come in handy. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE Lux, 2015

Fitted new trim today with a smear of silicone and double felt washers. Will see what happens but no water dripping after a test. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE Lux, 2015

Excellent!
Did you notice how much more soundly the a-pillar is with the 2 layers? I really think it is the right approach. 2015 LR4 HSE Lux Aintree Green

Well firstly, it sits properly now all the great chunks of mastic have been cut away. I wondered it it would seat properly with two washers but is very snug and sits flush now as it should.

10 days free refitting and carpet drying out, despite wet weather. Fingers crossed.
Next time we have a new windscreen, I will remove and refit the trim and not leave it to the windscreen blokes. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE Lux, 2015
