Head unit touch screen non-responsive (otherwise good)
Hi All,
I have a LR4 V8 HSE 5.0 MY10.
My head unit touch screen started acting up with touch position being out of location at first. Over time and several calibrations, it eventually become completely non-responsive to touch.
Its a bit of a hassle trying to do things on the head unit without touch. And certain functions are definitely not available (ie pulling up specific surround cameras, 4x4 info screen etc.)
There are quite a few good videos online on replacing the entire head unit (such as ). So I bought a used LR4 V8 5.0 MY10 replacement head unit from Ebay, disassembled the console and upon reconnecting the replacement unit, I noticed it was missing a socket! Then I noticed a few more mismatches of parts, such as EU vs ROW, non-matching part number... (yup, learnt the hard way this time). Here's a photo in recognition of the blunder. The part taken out of my vehicle is AH22-10E887-BE.

So, the questions I hope to seek advices on:
1) Does anyone know what is that missing socket (white) is for? (Sat Nav?)
2) Has anyone attempted swapping a ROW with EU head unit? Does it work properly and wont break anything?
3) Has anyone attempted to replace simply the TFT screen? Knowing this is a slightly more involved task and risk than swapping the entire unit out. Having searched a bit further, there appears to be replacement parts just of the TFT touch screen for the head unit to save from replacing the entire unit and potential incompatibility of vehicle spec. Part number: C070VW02V1 Anyone with successes?
Why would I not return the part or buy a matching? I could as a more costly option. Hence, if I could do something now with the parts at hand without risking much, then maybe its a way forward.
Anyone would like to chip in on their 2cents?

when my head unit died i took it apart and it seems to be possible to swap screen only and it is not so involved so if you got the part available go for it as it might be simplest option unless one of the circuit boards is malfunctioning making screen inoperable

Thanks grzesiul. Good point on circuit board or other potential faults beyond the screen.
I have been searching other posts and havent yet come across a non-responsive touch yet fully functional unit. Just wondering what is the culprit.

when my head unit died it was intermittent initially going on and off or blinking eventually died
i took it apart looking for obvious signs of damage by heat caused by electrical induced failure but nothing there
Dirt trapped in between the screen and the holding frame can cause this problem, make sure that is ok, otherwise like suggested above just change the touch screen from the ebay one to you're old one.
There is a how to somewhere on here about fitting a GVIF unit in the D4 with a section for the screen LCD fitting.

1) White socket is for Traffic info.
2) I don't think you will break anything by plugging in the replacement. And you should be any to check the screen and touch work before you do anything

Thanks Pete and Flack.
Tried cleaning the display but unfortunately it wasnt the culprit.
Having checked the ebay screen is functional, I swapped out the LCD only.
It was intuitive in contrast to what I had imagined.
After extracting the head unit out of the car, it involves:
1) Loosen 5 screws holding the base plate
2) Loosen about 10 screws holding the LCD surround frame
3) Disconnect the two fpc connectors from the back of old LCD
4) Reconnect the fpc connectors to the new LCD
5) Reassembly, cross fingers, then ignite
Frankly, I spent more time on putting the interior trims back than the LCD swap.
Had I knew all this I would have just bought a new LCD unit only.
But at least now I have a spare head unit and a dead weight.
Here are a few photos and hopefully help others in a similar situation.

They have kept the screen nice and seperate for you.
Did the ebay unit fully work when plugged in?

I merely tested whether the screen turns on and did not browse through menu items to check its full functionality and I was on a mission to swap screens then.
I just spoke with the eBay seller (by the looks of it he salvages parts from scrapped cars) and he advised all LR4s have same parameters and such units fit multiple models. But whether that advice was give on the back of tried and tested is not known to me.
