Which GAP tool?
Is a gen 2 Gap IID ok for a 2015 D4 or is a gen 3 better?New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Just got a message from GAP recommending the G3 because there aren't any software upgrades on the G2.
If anyone has a G3 they want to sell let me know. If not I'lll buy a G4. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I am not sure G4 will work on Discovery 4. If I am not mistaken G4 works on different protocol for newer cars.

Their supported table has become pretty convoluted… anyway, check here https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/ on what you need/want to work and you’ll get a fairly comprehensive list.
The G4 will only work on the Disco 4 with an adapter cable (or by removing pins form the OBD port, which most folk won’t be wanting to do)

That was what I was looking at: G4 + Adapter. A bit of future proofing as well. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Makes sense. I’ve got the adapter cable on order, so will report back once I’ve tested it.
The G4 powers and connects without it but crashes out

Yes, it’ll do all that you need on the 2.7 D3 also, but as mentioned updates are not going to be forthcoming, but in reality you don’t need to worry about updates if all you are using it in on is a D3……the updates are more relevant to newer cars 👍
