I drove down a rough street today and noticed it on mine. Not very bad, but it was just noticable.

No, it's not bad and not present on every bump, actually it's felt in the steering wheel rather than heard...

It sounds like the steering joint. This is a known of defect. Also on full lock some cars have a weld that catches and causes a grinding sound. Mine does.

So should I expose myself to the dealer's incredulity right now or wait for the knock to get much worse so even he would feel it?

No make him complete an EPQR which is a fault form. Then ask them to contact LR technical and you will find there is a known lower steering joint fault on some vehicles.

This problem seems to affect vehicles to a greater or lesser extent. Mine is going back in again to hopefully have it rectified. I have already had lower column replaced but this has not solved problem and now 4000 miles later is worse than ever - cats eyes, minor road ridges etc set it off. The steering has also become very vague. I understand that changing the rack itself has cured some vehicles. I can only hope........................D3 TDV6 HSE Java Black with black leather

the knock/grating noise when your steering is in full lock is the steering stops bottoming -this is nothing to be concerned about -applying a smear of grease to the stops will cure this

I'm not talking about the steering stops; it happens in any wheel position!

This is the bit that causes the creak on full lock, put grease on both sides;
