E-mail notification of PMs and new posts

Are people still having problems with the site not sending out (aka you not receiving) private message and topic reply notifications?

Let me know, I've had a couple of messages via PM that it's not working for some people, but I'd like to know how widespread it is Wink

The site is not notifying me of Private Messages. It used to put a pop-up window to inform me (if I was logged in) but now I have to rely on either spotting the the notification at the bottom of the home page when I log in, or wait until I receive an email to notify me.

The New Posts, with refresh seems fine, although there is still no refresh when the "No new posts" screen is showing.

Hmmm. It's still working fine for me, and I've not made any changes to the PM system that I know of Confused How long has it been broken? Question

There's no refresh for the "no new posts" screen at the minute because "no new posts" is seen as an error by phpBB and so it gets caught by the error handler, so I'd have to hack it about to get the refresh in there. I'll have a look now I've done the upgrade though.

Cheers for the feedback Gareth Very Happy

Yup, have sent you one back Smile

It should notify you immediately - as soon as I've sent you the message and you perform an action on the site (visit/change page/refresh, etc).

I don't expect you have, but you haven't got a pop-up blocker installed have you, or installed any upgrades/service packs recently? Are you using Internet Explorer on Win XP Service Pack 2? Question

I've checked your profile and it does have the option checked to popup the window Confused Evil or Very Mad

I have not upgraded recently, and I am on SP2/ IE6, I use standard firewall (windows) and I have a hardware firewall /router.

I realise that the problem is at my end, so I will investigate it here. If I am blocking the pop up inadvertantly, then there should be a log of it somewhere, I'll go and have a look.

The only thing new is I have a PDA which uses active sync (windows) and this was installed about 4 weeks ago, so maybe this affected it. I will ponder doing a system roll back to check.

Might be worth trying an alternative browser if installed, or a different computer Smile

Or even... sign in as an alias and send a PM from "Gareth" to "Gareth2"?

Simon, don't you dare come and try and sell everyone a Mac again Razz
