| fan noise when accelerating in cold weather |

When it is cold outside and I start the car in the morning, or simply if the engine has cooled, I get a supplemental noise while accelerating for the first minutes, it's like an extra fan is at work, even at small revs, but only while pushing the pedal. It dissapears all by itself after a while, do you get it too? What is it?

it's the viscous coupling on the cooling fan.... nothing to worry about

Yes its wierd, but normal. They all do it. It is to do with a phenomenon called "Heat Soak" when you turn off the engine.
The excess heat closes the thermal clutch on the fan pulley. This stays closed until the engine next starts up. It takes a few seconds for the movement of the fan to open the clutch again.
This is according to my mate in the pub! but it sounds plausible to me

I had the same problem but when the car was hot, saw somewhere in the US where they had a recall on this - viscous fan problem. It's cold now and the problem has gone. Annoying though sounds like your dragging a jet engine
