Tyre wear and new Pirelli Scorpions
It wasn’t that long a go (15k) that I posted here how happy I was with the Pirelli Scorpions 255/60/18, as my first set had survived 30k before I was forced to replace them with four brand news ones. Now 15k later and the rear ones are down to the wear marker but they are showing uneven wear on the outer edges. Spoke to my stealer who will approach Land Rover and ask if they can replace them free of charge.
Just in case the worst case scenario happens and that I have to replace them myself I went price hunting and stumbled on the following.
A tyre dealer told me that the OEM tyres are sometimes a different compound to those we get later on the open market, which explains why I got 30k out of the first set and only 15k on this set – anyone heard of that before?
On checking the prices for a new set, he also told me that Pirelli have just brought out a new Scorpion tyre – anyone heard of a new Scorpion tyre?Stadt Panzer Power

Thanks Wiggs & Slimer but that's the ATR version and the tyre dealer said there are new zero's on the market.
Stealer just phoned to say that my D3 had done too many miles so they won't replace the tyres free of charge Stadt Panzer Power

Well my OEM Zeroes went down from 8mm to 4mm of tread after 13K - so I would say they would have been good for 20K max Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

If you buy a good road tyre you might get stuck in the mud. But you can all have a laugh and practice towing techniques. If you buy ATs you might not get stuck in the mud, but your stopping distance on tarmac, wet or dry might be as much as 50% more possibly resulting in fatal injuries to loved ones etc. Is it worth it ?

OK, can anyone in the know verify: will the Pirelli ATR extend braking distance by 50% over Zeros? It would be a bit dull if I had to own three sets of wheels: summer Zeros, Snow Ice Zeros and a set of off-road tyres to be sure that I can play in the mud whilst being sure that I've done right by the wife and kids.
The Pirellis had covered 39000 miles and probably had another couple of thousand in them but they were getting a bit noisy!
Anyone had Wranglers on from new?
Can I expect similar milage out of them do you think?
What should I put on my old wheels for a bit of play-time?
Good deal on the wheels, and you were fortunate to get 39K from the Pirellis - mine had the inner wear problem at 18K (and there wasn't too much tread left across the rest). Might be worth getting a 4 wheel align done to ensure full wear from the new set.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
Since fitting the 19" inch wheels in place of 17s I've noticed some strange wear on the outer edge of the nearside rear. With the 17s, running Continental tyres the wear was even and normal, but now with the 19 it's chewing up the front edge of the treads, but just on the outside edge. It's not that easy to see on the picture, but the font edges are kind of lifted, with a 45 degree 'chamfer' of worn rubber on the very edge. Anyone know what might be causing this? The other side and front are fine.

Ridgeback, this is commonly known as "biting" and is caused by poor wheel alignment. Slide your hand over the tread in one direction and it will appear Ok, but when you slide it back the other way you will find that the tread "bites" into your hand.
Suggest the "toe" is in or out? The camber setting will affect the even wear across the tread so this may be Ok with what you've suggested. bottom line is that you will eventually need a wheel alignment to adjust the Toe.....What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!
