suspension thoughts before I buy

Hello,

I'm quite interested in a 09 HSE that's for sale but it has an issue...

"SUSPENSION WILL NOT GO UP ON OFF ROAD MODE BUT ON NORMAL DRIVING ITS FINE"

I'm going to have a look at it this weekend hopefully as its ticking a lot of other boxes on the buying list.

Currently thinking air compressor or possibly a sensor / valve issue......

Any thoughts what may be wrong or what I need to be looking at for a possible (cheapish) fix?

Could possibly just be the switch. It’s been raised here a few times. Sorry couldn’t resist.

if there is a message on dash " normal height only" it won't be the switch.

If no message or response (switch light flashing) when pressed, then yes switch

ah but which switch.. been digging a bit deeper in the search function found some info about valve blocks and wiring issues which doesn't scare me too much. Might have to take my multi-meter along with me.

Switch in my case -spilled soft drink by the one you dare not argue with when you discover a sticky mess on the center console after a shopping trip.
Take it apart - watch you don't kill yourself when removing the gearlever.
Used electrical contact cleaner spray, let is dry out re-assemble and no more problems for the past 5 years.
I disconnected the battery just in case.
Good luck.

Death by gear lever does sound worrying!!
a tight fit is it ?

I'm not scared to have a go at swapping out a compressor or a switch though.

thanks

Just had another chat with the seller and it seems to be the compressor. It's sat at normal height and drives fine, doesn't drop down when parked but wont go up.
might be a fairly straightforward fix...... i'm thinking i could tackle a pump myself.

if the compressor had gone, on a car of that age, you would expect the car to be on the bump stops.

The switch is like a TV remote control.

The compressor is dead on it as there was no function or sound whatsoever when engine running. seemed OK on initial start up with no fault showing. and drove ok too...
I think there are other issues too as it went into fault mode if you tried to select any of the terrain settings on the rotary knob... then suspension light came on and nothing worked, not even the hi lo gearbox settings.

Walked away from this one..
