I'll have one as well RLD if youve got spare. Mine is currently fitted the underneath of the rack by means of a steel bar but the range is very poor and reads nearly 5 on the SWR Duncan

As an addition to Ray's mounts, if the LR rails are being used, not the FR ones then the cable can be run through the rear plastic moulding to keep the cable tidy. The moulding is removed with one screw and a 6mm hole drilled. Will never show when you sell it on! The CB aerial bases will not fit in the track as the VHF ones do in pic's below, to big.... Shame.

Another good CB aerial is the K40. Has the advantages of no big spring at the bottom, and also is easy to remove the whole of the base and whip with a 1/2 turn. No tools. It's also very easy to tune!!

XTC...thats looks very neat mate..im am actually thinking now about mounting the aerial to the rails as i probably wont have the rack on all the time.
What bracket have you used there..home made or specific?"you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

Hi,
Bracket home made, just some 3mm ali plate. Not as clever as Ray's as I have no bending facilities so just a spacer to get the mount in under the bracket. Track fixing is 6mm thick ali tapped 6mm.
Only problem is that the Explorer rack cannot be fitted with the mount as the rack covers the full length of the track. Fine with the FR though. I leave my rack on all the time so just use a simple 90 deg bracket on the top rail of the rack where the tiedown rings slot in.
Cheers, Richard.Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!
xtc nice one my one dose not need to be bent have don some flat ones to, yours nice oneHome of RLD Hidden winch mounts Spare wheel Locks Trailer Body Fabrication ray@rld-tech.co.uk D3/4 sump plates MY 14 sump plates and the Discovery Sport wheel protectors Discovery 5 wheel locks

Hi folks, looking at the various brackets I wondered if anyone has tried a magnetic mount (as shown in XTC's Nevada link) - do they work on a Disco roof (it is steel) or do they tend to be too easy to move or get knocked off??
Have been contemplating the same problem - and I do not currently have any roof rails.
Comments/suggestions...?
