IPOD CONNECTION
Hi Guys, great forum. Just taken delivery of my D3, what a vehicle, a serious upgrade on the D2. Had a "profession" do my Ipod connection - had not discovered the forum yet, and the sound quality is not great. From what I understand from him, he's done the same as what you guys have recommended on the forum, connecting up to the aux. connection. I am currently using a FM transmitter as I'm finding that the quality is better from that than the aux. connection...surely this can't be right?
Any ideas on why the sub standard quality and how I can improve?
Land Rover do a direct connection Ipod connector kit
It connects to the rear of the stero allowing all current Ipod's, iphone inc 3G version.
It charges your ipod also and tucks away nicely within the glovebox.
This allows steering wheel controls for track change and volume control.
Other members have had and fitted, i will let them comment on the quality of the sound...
as i could be considered bias

Also, how much does it cost?
I'd be interested to hear people's views on music sound quality. I have been using my 3G iphone over a lead from the headphone jack to the car aux port and it sounds very good but does need to be turned up relative to the radio.

The iPod works just like the CD changer i.e. from the steering wheel controls.....whatever playlists are in & runnable from the Pod they work from the installation....there is no comparison to the Aux lead method or radio hook up, the official LR kit is superior.
If you search elsewhere on here others have used the kit & placed the actual iPod holder at the lh side of the drivers position for a RHD vehicle. This is a better place than the rh side - it hides the fact there is an installation in the vehicle.
note! the LR installation also allows you to use USB sticks up to 2 gigs as a means of storage in addition to the iPod...this is quite useful as leaving the odd USB in car as they as so low cost these days.BREXIT - done properly.

I bought the Ipod module form Nick at Yeovil (great service as usual). It was easy to fit and the sound quality is much better than connecting into the AUX socket. I did try connecting to the AUX socket before with a Belkin adaptor but I always had to turn the volume up high.
You can control the Ipod through the steering wheel controls, but only select the next/previous track and selecting playlists, you can't browse albums, artists and no information comes up on the radio display.
I installed the module as per the book, but after a week I moved the Ipod connection to near the steering wheel so I could see the display. The connector sits nicely in the gap under the steering wheel when I am not using the Ipod. You also get additional connectors in the top glove box for usb stick and other sources.
