Advice please on buying my lease car

Hi boys and girls.

My lease is coming to the end and I have enquired about buying the car which is possible.

As my signature says, it's a 2006 (56) 07MY HSE with clear glass and 33,000 miles. I have just had is serviced at an independant whom I trust (John Dennis of Aylesbury) who have said it is a good one!
Now, the dilemma. The Lease company reckon they can sell it for £22650 and this is the price they want from me.

The question is, is this a fair price? I think it is not bad but they will not negotiate so I have only two choices Shocked

Advice please or reassurance if appropriate anyone?

They probably could sell it for that in the current topsy turvey market.

If you let it go, then you are back at square one, but are you still in a position to be able to Lease a new D4 given the price increases.

It's all about the cost to keep or the cost to change and the residual value.
You also know the history of the car, so if no major issues, then why not keep it.

You can ask if they would be selling it at auction, and if they are get them to deduct the auction charges, price is not far off to be fair Thumbs Up

you have two options

1) buy it at the price they state if you are happy with the car as in my experience they wont sell it for less.

2) find out where they are auctioning it and when you return it to them make sure it is absolutly filthy, crisps in the back - etc etc. option they take the cars straight to the auction. - then go bid on it..

As an example I had a 52 reg mondeo ST220 Estate with lots of options - it was 18mths old, 70K miles and cost £27k new. Leasing company wanted 15K for it !!!. It went to the Auction in immaculate condition and they sold it for £8K Shocked

I gave a company car back once less the manuals, service book, spare wheel and filthy. Aim was to buy at auction hoping the trade wouldn't know the service history etc as it was a high miler and looked un cared for.

I have checked around but very few seem to be on the market Shocked

Switzerland

Same Situation here in Switzerland. Owners extend their leases because of the bad economy and don't have money for new cars and the D4 just startet selling ann it is very expensive as it only comes from SE on with the new engine. So it wil be January 2010 on that more D3 come on the market. Here a lot of RSS come on the market. But LR sales are here down 40% to last year. Used V8 are very cheap to have. prices here are similar for what your lease company wants.

Wonky.
Up until a two months ago I had a part time job, of collecting lease cars, and then delivering them to dealers or to auction.
The lease company always ask for top book, for their cars, but some people pay it, also they ask top money from garages, they very rarely buy as there is not enough profit in it.
Where is is the car going to at the end of the lease? i.e. are you taking it back to the dealers or is it going to be collected from you.
If going to be collected from you, ask the guy who collects it, which auction it's going to, it stands a good chance it will be B.C.A. at Black Bush airport.
Phone them up after a couple of days, or look on the internet to see when it will go through, then go there to bid on it.
The easiest way to do this is to buy a glasses guide, to see what the prices are going for.
When the bidding starts the dealers will be after it, but they will not go much more than bottom book for it, as they want to make a profit out of it, so they will stop bidding for it, and then the private bidders start, the price then goes to highest bidder, but DON'T get carried away, set a limit and stick to it.
Now as far as giving the car back in a dirty condition, the car will be washed on the out side, to go through the auction, but the inside is a different matter if it's very dirty it will be cleaned, because that's the first place the dealer looks to see how much he has to spend on it.
So if the car is dirty, has stained seats, or ash, YOU will pay for it, to be rectified, and it will not be cheap, I have known people put their lease cars in for cleaning, before handing them back.
I hope this helps you.
