SWR meter is just for tuning, there are no settings to remember
Don't leave it in all the time as every connection degrades the signal slighty, if you leave it in-line that two extra connections you don't needThe End
1. Put CB on channel 1
2. Put switch on SWR meter in FWD position
3. Key mic and adjust so needle is on far right of scale then de-key mic
4. Put switch on SWR meter in REF position
5. Key mic and take reading then de-key mic
6. Put CB on channel 40
7. Repeat steps 2-5
If the reading is higher on channel 40 than 1 you need to shorten the antenna (lengthen if 1 is higher), take a bit off at a time and retest on both channels. Ideally you want a 1:1 SWR, not always achievable though, get it to at least 1:1.5 or below if possible. Whilst tuning if it starts to go up on the channel that had the lower reading stop, you're not going to get a better reading with the set-up as it is. Length of coax also affects SWR so don't go changing that after you've adjusted the antenna

ok, so if its for tuning what needs to be adjusted. I did plug it in earlier and it went off the scale, I turned the calibration till it went to the set mark. Reluctant to use it at the moment as unsure if its doing damage, and whats the recommended channel to be on. It came to me already set to EU which includes UK, but can select UK.

Was typing while you was looking in Gallery, so its as easy as you previously told me.......when I did the second calibration on REF, the needle moved no more the a couple of millimeters.
If your antenna is a dedicated CB item then you shouldn't have much of a problem. SWR meter is simple to operate and Slimers description of how to use it is ideal. If it comes up with less than 2 then you will be fine.
FWIW, the SWR reading is a measure of how much RF power is actually being radiated from the antenna and how much is being fed back into the transceiver (not good). 1:1 is perfection and not really achievable. Less than 2:1 is OK. If the needle goes beyond 3:1 then something isn't right.The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Yep, if it's that or similar on 1 & 40 unplug the meter and leave it all alone, in fact leave it alone anyway, sounds like it's fine and we'll double check at the next SE meet The End

Cheers guys, its just when you aint sure and being told I may damage the unit if not SWR'd worries me.................Maybe the guy I bought the whole package from was just trying to add a sale.
So tomorrow I will set it to UK, and give it a go.
