One thing we have requested and Land Rover have in principle agreed too is to have the speed camera locations added to the next issue of th sat nav disc.
Navteq need LR to ask them to have the files included but for some reason no one ever bothered to ask them to do it so long as they do it it time the next run will include them
Nick
Hope they do - would make a lot more sense than running a separate sat nav/detector alongside the LR unit - is there any way of following this up with Navteq to make sure that LR have put in the request? - perhaps a separate posting for the new discs in the For Sale section as soon as a delivery date is known? - will it be an upgrade of the "new" 2008-09 DVD or have to wait for 09-10 version?

Excellent - if they add the cameras in for the June 09 upgrade, then put me down for a set of those discs! (only problem I can see if that camera sites do change & that is why most systems provide regular updates, yet there is no interface for the LR Sat Nav to receive updates other than just replacing the DVD )

It will be interesting to see if they add cameras just as POI's or add a firmware upgrade to the satnav software to provide more intelligence, like audible warnings as you approach a camera etc. That would be best so you dont have to watch the screen for camera locations.
The beemer navigation is simply POI's added to the disc, and while better than nothing isn't that useful.

Large - I would also ask them to update their POIs as they are very out of date, especially the petrol stations. Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond
Sadly Gone : MY08 D3 TDV6 HSE : Stornoway + Alpaca + Privacy + BAS Remap

I don't suppose we can ask for the speed camera locations to be in a text file rather than kiwi encoded? That way we could easily update the disks with accurate data... Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

Could it be of the dvd type i'm using? i tried with a DVD+R DL
Have you tried DVD-R DL? I know you can definately make back ups.
DL discs can be notoriously unreliable. Decent brand, decent write/authoring software, and a decent drive (a combination such as Toast on a Mac would work well) and the slowest possible burn is one way to reduce the number of errors. However one of the many reasons for unreliability/slow seek times/crashes/errors etc, is to do with the layer split - ie which data goes on which layer of the disc. When you copy the disc the resultant copy probably won't have all the data in the same place on the disc. This has different effects on DVD-Video and DVD-Data discs, but can result in errors. I'm in the DVD trade so-to-speak

I am using a Verbatim DVD+R DL ... haven't tried the -R though.. but i will!
If that doesn't work i guess i'll just hope that nothing goes wrong with my original dvd, it's not worth loosing my sleep because of that (unless it get's unreadable)

stupid question - coverage per DVD? |
|
I know this sounds like a stupid question, but can anyone tell me how to differentiate between the 2 DVD (2008-2009 Version)? My company car AUDI has one disk labeled Western Europe and one Eastern Europe. Living in Austria I would be interested to know whcih DVD to use for which countries....
Kind Regards
Nikolaus

so in other words I have to load the disk and see what countries are covered....
Is it just my ignorance thinking that the words "Western Europe" and "Eastern Europe" would be nice on the disk label?
Thank you for your fast reply!
