Sat Nav for eastern Europe ??? |
|
Hello!
Does anybody know if the latest sat nav DVD has Hungary, Romania or any other country from Eastern Europe?
I travel a lot in that part of the world, and as soon as you leave Austria, the screen is blank! Any solutions?
Thanks!

Just bought the latest quad DVD, I'll check in the morning, but it certainly covers the village where my house is in the Czech Republic.

I have set of 2 discs covering Western & Eastern Europe bought early this year but coverage is poor outside big cities - not sure if this 4 disks set i better bu t I doubt it as aI have set of 4 disks in my brand new Jag XF and coverage is also poor (maps are prepared by Navteq for both LR and Jag) | Il boit pour oublier qu'il vit

Indeed! Probably the fault of Land Rover rather than Navteq.

What Piadina said - Garmin (NavTeq) maps cover Czech and east very well, I have a Nuvi 660 - Czech mapping is now almost total.
The new 4 disc is supposed to be good, but no one has really tried, interesting bogblaster has invested, any more feedback? Also, can I ask where you bought and how much?

Do not order the new Western Eastern Europe 08-09 maps!!
I placed an order last week and received the new maps yday. I was very suprised that i got in the package only 2 DVDs !!! Immediately I called Navteq hotline and they informed me that there was a typo error in their site and they feel sorry for the inconvenience ...??????? I told them that this is a major missleading from their company and I would like to return the product . The lady informed me that I can't do that because it is written that the return policy doesn't allowed the package to be opened. (obviously she was brain dead , she couldn't realize that if i don't open the product i will never be able to see the missing DVDs ) I asked to speak directly to the manager but she told me that I should sent them a letter if a have any complaint. I asked the manager's name and she refused to give it .
I will try to call them again today.

I don't really see the problem, so there was a typo on the site (which they admit to, apologised for and will no doubt correct soon if they haven't already) and you only got two disks instead of four, so what? Do you think they've held back some maps? Would you not have ordered if had only said two disks? The End

Of course not !!!
I had the version 07-08 which is almost identical to the one that i bought (unfortunately....).
The only reason I placed my order was the 4 dvds seemed to me major upgrade compared with the one that i had with the 2 dvds but....
Meanwhile very strange that they admit their mistake , they appologize but they didn't accept to return my purchase.
The typo error doesn't seem to be so innocent... Very sloppy or very clever indeed.

At the rate LR/Navteq releases updates, we might get the detailed data navteq already disposes of in our vehicle in a year of two. But I would not recommend buying the numerous releases inbetween....
They seem to want to pull as much money out of our pockets....
There have been 2 updates the last six months.
Long live Tomtom, Garmin & co
To mask the fact that the new release is NOT the giant step forwards people like me are waiting for, they stopped indicated the degree of coverage by shades of blue. People would see that in most countries nothing too much changed. Now "covered" countries are green, no matter if they are covered 99% or 10%.
In this view, Arismaster is completely right! Some people get by

This does seem to be unfair - inducing you to part with cash on the basis of a misleading description of the newer release. I am in no hurry to buy a new set until it is clear that there is an improvement in the coverage.

Navteq has all the coverage we are looking for. You can check in their map reporter application (http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submitDur.do) what they have mapped already. They simply do not put it on our disks.
see this topic: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic6065.ht...p;start=60 and go to page 5 with a very clear illustration of what I am saying. Compare the second and the third image.
They (navteq and/or LR) just don't add all of it to their "latest" releases.
The only reason I see is they want to sell expensive navigation systems by claiming they have coverage but also want to sell us as much as possible updates.
Don't buy the updates. Don't support this hideous policy.

Its land rover, or the relationship they have with NavTeq that is the issue. I have the latest NavTeq maps for my Garmin, and they contain the same detailed information as the NavTeg map browser (for Czech).
