Using iTunes to create data discs

Since buying a 3g iphone, Iv'e been using iTunes a lot more. This is my first venture into using the ipod function and what a great thing it is too.
I need some help however.
Before I had the iphone, whenever I created a data disc for use in the Disco, I rip the audio CD to my hard drive and then burn the data disc with directories using "Sonic" software. As discussed in the past, this allows multiple albums per disc.
Itunes allows you to burn a data disc but this will not play in my home DVD player (this has always been my testbed before playing the disc in the car).
So, the question is, does anyone know of a method of using itunes to produce an MP3 data disc rather than creating an "audio CD" and then having to rip it back into the computer?

Cheers, Alan

I have all my itunes music as MP3, not the default ACC then i just

on my iTunes you go to

Edit > Preferences >

(pop up menu) Advanced > Burning

Select > Data CD/DVD

So you might need to convert your music to MP3 in iTunes Thumbs Up

As npinks says....

I have all my music in MP3 format and just burn MP3 discs straight from Itunes (I like to use my playlists).

Equally you could just drag and drop MP3 files straight into your CD from Windows Explorer.

You should easily get around 9 hours (>125 tracks) on a std 700 Mb CD
 I see no ships........

Its also worth knowing that if you put all the songs you want to burn into a playlist and then sort that list by album then iTunes will automatically create a folder on the CD for each album. You can do the same thing by artist too.

Latest version of iTunes (on a Mac) gave me the option when burning a disc the other day to burn data or audio, it never used to do that before and I had to set in the preferences.

When you select 'Burn Disc' in iTunes - you should get a pop-up box like this:

Select 'MP3 CD' then 'Burn'

That should give you MP3 CDs to play in the D3/LR3

It will also convert any AIFF, AAC, m4a files into MP3 at burn time. No need to store your files in lossy MP3 format if you don't want to.

For the last version of iTunes...

To convert a song's file format:

Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Importing.

In the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the format you want to convert songs to, and then click OK to save the settings.

Select one or more songs in your library, Option-click, and choose “Convert Selection to.”

For the latest version...

To convert a song's file format:

Choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and then click Import Settings for the CD and set to MP3

Close the preferences window.

Select one or more songs in your library, Option-click, and choose “Create MP3 Version.”

If you right click on the title bar (Name / Title / Artist / etc) and add 'Kind" you can sort by file type to get all your non MP3's in one place.

Select the first, shift select the last and then right click and convert to MP3.

It takes about 10 seconds an album on an 8 core Mac Pro Wink

Hope that helps...

The above works perfectly, but not for anything bought on iTunes (protected) Big Cry So I can play anything in my car that I've ripped, but not if I bought it legally - now that makes perfect sense ??? Whistle

If you want to play protected content as an MP3 you can do it but it is bit of a faff...

Create a playlist of all your bought songs.

Burn a CD Audio disc, NOT an MP3 disc just a normal CD.

Reimport your burnt CD into iTunes as MP3.

And you have copyright free MP3's that you can save to an MP3 (data) CD

Wink

Alternatively send the original protected AAC file to your iPod and plug it into your aux socket / iPod car kit.

Yea, it's better just to use the ipod/iphone in the car because you loose too much quality dubbing across an audio CD. I'd just be happier not having to plug/unplug my iphone each time I get into/out of the car.
