The above is not necessarily prompted by any LR experience I have had with any my D3's.

By upgrade do you mean buying a new car . I'm in 2 minds as to wether I'm going to keep my car when the warranty is up or trade it on a new D3 . Pros for keeping it are I don't have to repeat any of the fitment on the new one . Also no major issues to date - so I'm not expecting any major expenses once it's out of warranty ( I probably just kicked Murphy squarely in the nuts ) - also if keep it I will buy a V8 D3 for city slicking and use the TDV6 for trips .
Obviously if I have any drama in the next year I will get rid of it and maybe even look at another marque .
Hope the car is listening

1/2 the kays or 1/2 the fuel(doubt this option)
Open road sounds like a good deal if there are no cruddy diesel worries

I see there is a new raco filter funnel that claims 15 gallons per minute . I think I'm going to get one of these and use it if there is any doubt about fuel quality .

Atacama.
I have a V8. I get about 15 to 16l/100 km around town, and 12 to 13l/100 km on the open road.
No fuel problems, no EGR blanking, no smoke, no remapping. Oh; and V8 power of course!

Ironically the main reason I went for a diesel was because I wasn't sure of the availabilty of unleaded fuel up north - and you will always find diesel .
Who's the sucker now

A new car: I use mine as a 4x4 ... major concern is the expiration of warranty: and hassles with having to repair it all the time, freaks me. The dishonesty and lack of proper disclosure on the side of SALR, eg on front air hoses: SALR/DVB new about it all along since the launch in Windhoek but kept quiet, despite being forewarned ... (add list of other problems kept quiet, but "filtering through") ... handbrake mechanical and electrical failures, Front diff assembly and past suspensionsuspension suspensionsuspension problems and now suspension noises, forget the rest...
What next?
I want to have peace of mind.
Simply Love the D3. Hate the hassles and playing LR roulette.

no more ranting. it does get you sometimes.
Lower control arm bushes, ball joints have to be replaced on the front suspension.
Heine, I would stay with the D3, for now.
Got prices on the 09 HSE yesterday with trade in value. The S is a better deal, methinks

Was at LR Umhlanga yesterday to get my battery replaced, lower control arm bushes etc also need replacing. Decided to go the Motorite route and extended for 2 years / 40k, for a cool R31 grand. Had the option to go to 2yr / 60k, but that was R46 grand.
Interestingly I was chatting to one of the techie's about this and that and he mentioned that LR can give them a code that allows them to alter whatever they like on the vehicle. I asked if that included altering the speed at which the off-road ride height drops and he confirmed yes. So now you have to find something wrong with your D3 that warrants the code being given out by LRSA, slip the techie a few bob, and voila one bugbear solved
Agree with you AP, the spec on the S means it's now the best deal, and you get to have black bumpers as an added bonus. One of the sales guys I know did confirm that the new engines would be appearing in the first half of next year, so may be worthwhile waiting a bit.

I concur...
Much better than the old V8 D2's..... Why is the fear of long words called hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia?

After having a look at what I have to pay in for the 09 spec. with 9 months of warranty to go, I wil wait until next year.
Robharvey, the new engine specs do make the wait worthwhile ...
I understand the motorite does not cover "squeaks and rattles": here we know they start mostly due to a real problem (such as the ball joints/ lower control arms).
How does Motorite differ?
