12v switched off reversing sensors/lights

I want to give a switch to the stereo to mute the sound when reversing sensors are on. Any idea where there is a live when selected at the cfront of the vehicle or do I have to take it off the reversing light?

There must be an output at the front of the vehicle, but TBH, I think it'd be easier to take it off the reversing light live cable.

there is a relay in the CJB, R217 which then feeds fuse 6P which has a brown-green wire on the other side of the fuse. refer to the trailer socket cct diags and you will see.

What CW said Thumbs Up

Fuse # 5 is the D3 reverse lights, whilst Fuse #6 is the trailer reverse lights. I think that both are fed from the same relay....

Whichever one you use, if you patch into the fuse terminals, first pull the fuse out and test which terminal does not have 12V when reverse is selected (and ignition on).....then connect into this side before sticking the fuse back in.

Just out of curiosity, which radio are you going to try and mute? I know the base LR radio doesn't have a phone mute - does the hi-line/HK have one or is it an aftermarket stereo that you've installed?

Maybe I'm saying this tongue in cheek, or maybe I'm being a bit simple - But I thought all Discovery 3's had this as standard as per my photo below :

It's known on mine as the on / off switch - although it's only named in the user manual Whistle

I have installed a Pioneer DEH-P7050BT Tuner I put it in a freelander facia adaptor and after filing it to make double din I also put in a slide out touch screen, lots of fidling to get it right; but it worked. It has a CD player, Aux in, USB/I-Pod in and a Blue Tooth for both phone and music. It has a connection for connecting a divice to activate mute so I thought I may as well connect it to the reversing sensors as it is something the OEM doesn't do.
I will be connecting a steeering control module next to get the steering wheel controls working. (PAC SW-X)
Has anyone installed one of these?

Thanks ND....although I'm never going to have a hi-line stereo in mine, it's good to know in case someone asks the question again one day.

Cheers! Thumbs Up

Sorry CaverD3...I forgot that I'd already seen pics of your screen in other posts Thumbs Up

Is the touch screen linked to the tuner or do you run it from a laptop/CarPC?

I have moved the screen:

Using this:

Resulting in this:

I put a blanking plate over the cubby and have aux in, 2x USB to laptop, USB to head unit and video to the screen. (for a night vision through a video camera Very Happy )

Using an old Laptop at the moment but intend to get an EE PC for the glovebox.

Works well except I just blew the inverter the 'puter uses. Rolling Eyes

Still need to get a phone with blue teeth. Rolling Eyes

Back to my question; is the fuse one of the ones behind the glove box? If so how do I actually connect a wire there?

On the blown inverter, can you not get a dedicated car PSU for the laptop? After all, all you do with the inverter is up the voltage, only to put it back through a PSU to drop the voltage again. Depending on laptop model you can normally source a car PSU for about £40 in the UK. When you get your Eee PC this place can supply a PSU for the car for £30 plus p&p so suspect you can get similar in Oz?

Easy and safe way would be one of these

Has 2 fuses ..1 for the original circuit and 1 for the new

I've been looking for a photo of one of these cables all bloody afternoon Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up

As Wiggs says, that is pretty much the only safe option of doing it without Censored up the CJB trying to tap into the back of the fuse holders.

Remember that it isn't a simple fusebox and probably has more electronics in just the CJB than most cars did a few years ago Whistle
