Anyone running an OQO 1?

I already own memory map and a Bluetooth GPS dongle and wondered whether this might work as a neat in car PC for GPS and music. I'd be keen to hear from anyone else using one.

the 5" screen might be a bit of a disadvantage IMHO

At least in the car, keeping it plugged in would solve the poor battery life.
Quite a good discount from the £1.5K launch price, but unless you must have a touch screen, I would have thought that a netbook would be a better purchase - larger screen, more memory & disk space and no doubt a better warranty for the same sort of price.

(I wonder why a touch-screen device like that didn't come with XP tablet edition; indicates to me a half-assed implementation of the touch capability)

I've had an OQO for testing for some time last year and to me the format is wrong for this use. The sreen is a bit smallish and the whole package is optimized for portability (which really is not an issue when you "carry" it around in a 2.3 tons vehicle).

I would go for a built-in 7" touch screen with a dedicated carputer behind rather that the OQO which is a portable device and designed for that purpose.

Many thanks, I'll probably look at the Samsung NC10 when it comes out.

Wot they said.

I have a 7" screen on my Car PC (the same size as the standard LR Sat Nav) and although it's plenty big enough for on-road navigation it still feels too small when using OziExplorer and OS-style maps.

I think that a 5" screen would be all but unuseable for this purpose. I guess it would be useable for video if necessary and to be honest at the price I think it could be worth it just to use as a fancy mp3 player with built-in wi-fi to browse the forum whilst sitting on the sofa at home Whistle

To give you an idea, here is my 7" screen with some OS-style maps - the detail/resolution is great, but the screen size makes it just about ok....any smaller would be almost impossible to use unless you zoom in a lot - at which point you won't see enough of the map to make it worthwhile.

I hope this helps,
Paul
