Jump starting from 2nd battery?
Having had to help out jump starting a neighbours car this morning, this got me thinking what if I needed to jump start mine? It is often left at the airport for two or three weeks at a time. I have the traxide kit and a Optima yellow top. If I needed to jump start the car should I disconect the power lead to the Optima before connecting the jump leads?
I haven't fitted an Anderson socket, but even if I had should you disconnect the traxide kit?Chipped, K&N, tow pack, AT2's, Mantec, fridge in boot, invertor, Garmin, laptop/Memory Map, Optima yellow top, Traxide Kit, Phillips Extreme bulbs

I dont think that would be necessary as the traxide kit should isolate the two if you cranking battery drops bellow a certain voltage i.e one that wouldnt turn the engine over. So you could jump start from the Aux battery without disconnecting the DBS. Sorry I did'nt make this clear.Club Exped trailer

Hi Donald, with the ignition key removed, simply take the covers off both battery compartments and connect a single jumper lead to both battery’s positive terminals, put your key in and turn the ignition on.
There is no need to connect the negative terminals as they are both permanently connected to earth.
If your cranking battery was very low, you may end up with some fault indicators once the motor starts, but the next time you apply the park brake and turn the ignition off, allow the park brake light to go out ( about 2 to 3 minutes ). When you restart the D3, usually all the faults will have cleared.

Cheers Drivesafe,
thanks for that. Makes the traxide even more worth having.

is the Optima man enough to start a Disco with a flat primary battery ?

Hi shiny moose, the Yellow Top is rated as a deep cycle battery and all deep cycle batteries can be used to start a vehicle even with a flat primary battery BUT doing so on a regular basis will dramatically shorten the life of most deep cycle batteries.
In the case of a Yellow Top, they will actually allow more starts with far less effect on the battery’s overall operating life.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7
Just wondered due to diesels requiring a more powerful battery to crack the engine.
