Took the G4 to work yesterday as the roads were treacherous and wanted some safety (and the ability to pull myself back on the road if I fell off )
Went to go home in the evening, flat rear nearside tyre (appears to have a nick in it from some recent off roading, so probably on it's way out for a while.)
So in a dark, wet and icy car park, started changing the wheel. I don't know the underside perhaps as well as I should, but managed to get the jack in a hole in a panel just in front of the wheel rather than in the chassis rail. Merrily jacking up, when there was a big groan and the car dropped an inch or 2, had a good look and the panel is now very deformed Eventually jacked car on the rail and successfully changed the wheel, but when I then raised the car from access height later in the evening, the compressor start buzzing loudly (noise dropped away after I set off, and suspension seems to work OK - did 90 miles home after the incident).
Have I damaged the compressor, or just the protection cover? If the latter, how easy is it to fix?
Silver lining to his cloud, I will have to go and buy some MT/R's as the fronts were going to need replacing in the spring anyway, might as well do them all now Craig

You might have just bent the bracket if you are lucky ...but several people have broken the bracket off completely.
I would get it checked asap as it could lead to this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic26240.html?highlight= and checkout the cause on page 321 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Checkout my compressor cleaning tips thread for further info
Looking at that (and from memory for a dark car park) I think I have just deformed it rather than crushed the compressor, as the tyre wasn't very far off the ground when it started to groan
Cheers and top tip Craig

Craig,
If the compressor is noiser than normal then its probably knackered...did this myself mate and took it to the dealer trying to blag one on warranty....with no luck i may add
Unfortunately the drain hole in the moulding is exactly the same diameter as the jacking point in the chassis so a common mistake they told me."you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

Depending on the situation on NCD etc you could possibly claim it as accidental damage on your insurance. The fact that you did it with a jack and not a gate-post shouldn't really change things.
Finally got chance to check it today, didn't have to go too far before a bit a bracket fell out, so off to be fixed.
However I cannot get it in for a couple of weeks, so for those who have done it before, the compressor itself seems to be working fine and is all in one piece, and is mostly held in place by the mud in the tray. Am I OK for relatively short local journeys, or is compressor failure itself imminent?
Also, how much does it cost to replace the bracket at a dealer?
ThanksCraig

Craig, I've been there. Nick supplied a new bracket, about £38 I think and a replacement cover, somewhere between £10-15. You do not have to detach any cables or pipes but the top bracket mounting bolt is a bit tricky.
Personally, although temped, I would not use it without the bracket. I found the noise too unnerving.
good luck

I did exactly what you did Craig. The compressor was working but making an awful buzzing noise when it was working. I took it to my dealer and complained about the noise and they replaced it under warranty. Guess I was lucky.
