and I havnt found ANY 255/50x20's wieght rated high enough, only 265/50x20's @ 111. Most 295/45x20's seem to be 114 (alough there are some lower), which is why quite a few folks have picked this size.

Al,
Take a look at the Hankook 265/50x20 112W, and the Yokohama 265/50X20 V802 111W.

Hi All, i am soon needing to replace my tyres. currently have Pirelli Scorpions 255/55 X 19 - V8 HSE '05. I am keen to look at 20's and seen ronp with 295/45 X 20 UHP noted. Are these tyres suited to 98%+ road use? i really dont get the car off the track that much.
I spotted this other tyre on the web now.
http://www.falken.com.au/tyres/4WD-suv-ST-Z01.html
Anyone with any experience, no idea of price yet. i was quoted AUD$425 per tyre on the weekend for the Scorpions so that sets the benchmark for what i can look for alternatively. i am interested in a set of near new 20's ex RR if anyone knows - obviously load rated appropriately. i saw someone on here state that 109 is ok in Oz, whereas all other correspondence here states 111 is minimum for Disco 3 HSE.
any feedback appreciated Ron or others.
I just had a look at the UHP pattern and looks very suited to road driving - is it ok off-road? '05 D3 HSE V8, Zambezi

Crispy - I think RonP has taken his off road with the 295 grabbers on. I've gone for 265/50x20's on mine, with Yokohama's, which are road tyres. On the tyre label at th bottom of the drivers door, on Oz spec D3's, it used to give the tyre spec, which said 109 as a minimum. This may have now changed. (that label had two different part numbers, one of which was for Oz)
That Falken looks OK, is is weight rated at 114 (same as Grabbers and Conti's of the same size), but looks like a "road" tread pattern.

Yep, have been off road with the Grabber UHP's they did perform well for a road tyre.
But, you need to be aware of potential rim damage, cos of the 45 profile.
Note: LR use their D3's with standard road tyres in the Experience centres. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Crispy - yes I went with Yokohama Advan ST's, but chose 265/50x20, weight rated at 111W. They should be quite expensive, but i got a deal here in the UK for a new set which was VERY good.

Ron, I think you had/have a set of these so i presume the offset is ok. Having got a very clear message from this forum, i am fixed on the tyre size being 295/45 20. Just not sure on tyre brand.
Yep, had a set with no problems with fittmnet of 295 tyres.
But remeber, all is dependant on the offset of the wheel, as all copies don't use the same dimensions. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Hi all and thanks for your collective responses. Are the wheel bolts i currently have suitable for the previously noetd 20" wheels (ebay link).
Also, if you know Ron, what is the offset thast i should verify for with wheel selection.
Thanks again.

Not sure what these wheels were as I don't have them anymore.
But current Stormers are 53 ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

So I finally got the wheels 20" with Nexen 295X45/20 and really chuffed. they look neat and look like they were made for theD3. Then, after carefull and sensitive counselling of SWMBO, what happens - a kerb jumps out and attacks the left front. I kid you not - been on the car 2 days and you know the rest. I need a serious lay down now. So now i am over the grief and have sent the LF off for repair - $200 later it'll be sorted again.
Does anyone have any tips on how to coach wives in avoiding kerbs?
Thanks to all in this and the "Wheels and Tyres" postings. it was feedback in there that motivated me to get the 20's and I am all the happier for doing it. '05 D3 HSE V8, Zambezi
