Where can I get confirmation that airbags will only deploy in a collision if seatbelts are in use ?
Part of training guide dogs , they must travel in the footwell of the front passenger seat. The D3 manual stipulates that front passenger airbag must be de-activated when traveling with baby on this seat. Recently received information from the guide dogs training facility that this must also be done when transporting dog in footwell.
So if the airbag/seatbelt thing is true not necessary to de-activate if the dog is in the footwell as long as the seatbelt is not engaged - ie nobody in passenger seat with seatbelt on  Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Can't confirm seatbealt side but AFAIK there also some sort of sensor that detects if there is a bum in the seat (or was that on my BM?)

There is a "weight on seat" sensor for the pass seat on which the seatbelt warning is based. Unless the logic is "No seatbelt = no airbag" then I would expect the airbags to deploy if they detect a passenger. However the remaining airbags will deploy depending on the crash scenario as the D3 doesn't know which seats are in use and which seatbelts are in use so it has no option, it may apply the same logic to the front pass seat to allow for faulty sensing of the seat occupancy and/or the seatbelt plugged switches.
Unless you can get a definitive from LR I'd assume the pass airbag will deploy and deactivate it if required by the keyswitch.
I can't concieve of a scenario where LR would conciously NOT deploy the pass airbag as I can't see it being of benefit given the deactivation switch is fitted for baby seat scenarios.... Cheers

If you're in doubt, clasping the passenger seatbelt with empty seat will deactivate the airbag - the 'passenger airbag off' light will illuminate. I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

US is different they are not SRS airbags. They are designed to work without seatbelts. Also there is a switch to turn off the passengers airbag between door and dash. Yes - this is the switch we turn to de-activate airbag whenever the dog is in the footwell - just thought that this is not required when no passenger is on seat. Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

Does not work like this on my SA '07 model. Then the irritating "bing" indicating that front seat belts are not clasped has somehow been de-activated (thank goodness) - wonder if there is a link Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. No helicopter. Used the winch to pull down the right side so it wouldn't tip over though

you can teach a dog to guide a visually impaired person to drive ??
 Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!
