a Yellow Top Optima.

I'd say that's about right from a 55ah battery. I've got an ammeter rigged up in the boot and my 80l waeco pulls about 5.8amps when compressor kicks in and rises to 6.8amps when the Turbo button is pressed. Set to -18c it will be running the compressor almost constantly, it may sound daft but do you need it that cold? Club Exped trailer

Hi Norto,
Good thinking. -18C takes a heap of battery.
While it would seem that my Engel is older than yours (no temp. indicator) I've only once run my Engel at max cool. It was in Mackay (QLD for you furriners ) a couple of weeks ago. It was using 240V and attained -19C. I guess that this means that it was running at 100% duty cycle. It's not something that I would do using 12V. The Bearded Dragon

We regularly keep meat in our freezer for up to 4 weeks on longer trips and then return the unused to our freezer at home with no ill effects. I've found that -8 to - 10 is more than suffiecient even in high ambient temps . The main reason for -10 is to allow the interior of the freezer not to drop below - 6 which is the magic number . Also it helps if you vacumm pack the meat and prefreeze it at home.
As a matter of intrest does the Waeco have a low voltage cut out on it
