LR3 Snorkel Options

It looks like the Safari snorkel isn't available in NA - only for the TD6 is this right? What other options are there if any right now other that the G4 type?

I was going to get a TD6 version and modify the air connection to the engine. Who knows if they will ever offer a correct version.

I asked Safari about a version for the petrol D3 when they released the diesel snorkel, and got a very vague reply. Probably they do not think there are enough V6 petrol engines around. Sad

Is the air intake not in the same place as the TDV6 and V8 petrol? Confused

yer... what is the difference ? The intake is in the same place... unless there is a difference the other side inside the engine bay that makes fitting different.

Mind you, that snorkel looks far more involved than the raised air intake that LR do.

I think its because its just a raised intake and not a true sealed snorkel.

Mind you... cpt Nemo's under Welsh rivers adventures seem to demonstrate that it is pretty well sealed Shocked

It could be that you are effectively altering the length of the air intake, or causing intake noise, or maybe Safari have not seen a large enough market to justify the testing needed before putting it on sale - in these days of hair-trigger litigation, it would be a brave (Or foolhardy) company who sold an untested item.

So it looks like the G4 snorkel is the only option here right now.

Next question, is a snorkel really necessary/helpful on the D3/LR3 with the position of the stock intake?

On my outing there was a ticking sound inside the front engine comp. after getting wet that concerned me a bit (went away after it dried out). It was suggested to me that I should get a snorkel for Florida trail conditions. I don't really care for the look of them too much but if they will serve the purpose I'll definitely get one.

Tami,

Did you ever get any answers or options? I have an email dated this week from Safari stating "We think it will fit" but are not sure. I don't see the point in the G4 if it isn't sealed. Our problem is mud and water ingestion, not dust!!!

Could the G4 snorkel not be converted into a sealed? Surely someone out there has put a sealant around it and tried it out - any news of this?

I was thinking of obtaining a G4 snorkel pretty soon - I spend a lot of time on dusty roads when I am out on the land looking for a fishing hole or climbing spots.

Should I go through my local dealer for this or do any of you have a suggestion?

it dose not matter if it is sealed it will not increase the depth of the H2O you can go thru due to the electronics and the connectors with their seals so is better suited for looks or if you are in alot of heavy dust for the v8
