Visit to Iain's this morning for a brake disc change, and not too much later, after a welcome coffee to get started (along with some indigestion tablets for me from his better half - and it had nothing to do with what I was being charged, thank you), I depart with a nice shiny new set of V8 front discs and new pads fitted - whey hey.

Are any other parts needed Al, besides Discs and pads ie. do calipers need changing also?

DN, calipers and pads are the same as TDV6, its just the V8 caliper brackets you need to clear the bigger discs (as well as the discs of course)

Thanks Al, that's a great mod if it helps, after driving other cars, and then getting back in mine, I sometimes feel the D3 brakes could do with uprating slightly. Downside for me would be not being able to fit the 17" 'pram' wheels, which go on from time to time. I presume you would have to tell your insurance co. about it?

I am probably being thick, but if the pads are same size, how does it improve the braking. Isn't the same amount of friction surface being applied to the disc .

Pads acting on a larger dia disc (moment of force bigger) presumably, also wouldn't get as hot as a smaller disc. Will have to await Al's verdict I think.

just "bedding in", so will tell in a 100 or so miles. The extra braking comes from not from pad area but by being further out from the center giving greater force (if I recall my physics correctly). Its like grabbing a bike wheel at the rim is easier to stop it than if you grab it at the hub.

But mountain bike wheels have moved from rim brakes to more efficient [and smaller] disc brakes.
But suppose the argument is how efficient were they in the first place in their initial set up....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Its OK Iain, they aren't that worn or uneven, (I meant compared with other modern cars), they feel the same as other D3 TDV6 brakes.

One reason for mountain bikes doing this is all the crud thats at the rim, so not a clean surface to grab.
DN - if you wanted to, you can fit the Brembo's. Simonsi has these on his.
