Thought you guys might be interested in this one.

My new D3 is due in a couple of weeks (MY07 V6 SE) but I thought I'd check out the internet for used Discos to see how the second hand markets going. When I came across a 06 HSE V8 demo with 722km's on it for $69,990 I nearly choked on my cornflakes as its not a big stretch from what I'm paying for mine.

I promptly went down to the dealer and asked what the story was, list price for a V8 being over $90k meaning its depreciating at $3 a Km.

After a bit of searching on the computer we discovered why it is so cheap. These cars were actually a mis-build HSE with only 5 seats, not only that but the car itself was actually built in January 05 in the first batch to arrive in Australia and had been sitting with Landrover for over a year doing nothing. Goes to show that you cant be too careful and if something looks cheap then there's probably a reason.

The v8 was only 10K more than a v6 when I bought mine.

They also offered me a brand new 05 V8 HSE for the same sort of price a the 06 v8 SE, but I valued the rear seats over the leccy seats. I was also unsure what had been fixed in the model year refresh and wanted the newer one with all those gadgets.

How did you find out it was a mis-build?

They did sell a HSE 5 Seat model in the first round. I think it was like an interim RRSport.

This is true. I almost bought one because the 7 seat option wasn't (and isn't) important to me. But couldn't get the 5 seat option in o6 so I bought what was available. 8) '06 LR3 4.4 V8 HSE Heavy Duty package, Satellite Radio, Luxury Package

I went to the dealer and gave him the Pauline Hanson 'Please Explain' - given that it was only $5k more than my new V6 SE (which should be here in a week

).

They were the first batch to arrive in Oz and apparently someone pressed the wrong buttons on the order form and they arrived here with 5 seats or so the story goes.

Dealer reckons depreciation could be a big issue as people who buy the top spec want all the toys, other point being that the genuine full size 7 seat option is one of the main reasons people buy Disco over other full size 4X4's.
