Retro-fitting Roof Rails

I’ve just spoken to my local LR dealer about getting some roof rails fitted to my D3 so I can fit roof bars or anything else that takes my fancy at a later date. After some thought and examination of vehicles in their showroom, they came back to me and confessed that they weren’t sure on how it should be done, but had come up with a reasonable assumption. They quoted £160 for parts, but didn’t really know about labour as it would be new territory for them. Whilst I have every faith in them, I’d prefer to be able to put them in touch with a dealer who’s already done this.

So can anyone out there point me in the direction of a dealer who’s retro-fitted roof bars?

Thanks!

My dealer reckoned the ones they had done were a nightmare, so the advice of using a dealer who has done a lot is a good idea.

Sorry Folks I hadn't spotted this thread. My roofrails were fitted quickly and without fuss by Merlin Landrover in Nottingham.

I think we should develop a list of competent dealers now. I had a dealer who was useless, now I have changed and they are really quite good, apart from the software.

Contacted my local dealer (Marshalls Bedford) again this morning and put them in touch with Merlin @ Nottingham - if anyone's interested, Marshall's are now quoting £120 parts + 30mins labour + VAT, which comes to probably only about £10 more than the factory fitted cost. Getting it done Wednesday as the car's already booked in for a few other warranty things

It's good to see that we could get the Landrover dealers to share a bit of best practice.

Just to update - Marshall's did the work for me - came to £186. I took them an hour, but they had only quoted my for half an hour as this was how long Merlin had told them it had taken them, so they only charged me for half.

I even got the old roof inserts back, not sure what I'm going to do with them though!

Now just need to decide whether to go for the LR bars or Thule ones. Anyone got any experience of either on their D3? Had Thules on my TD5, but prefer the more integrated look of the LR ones (cost more though!)
