Nagging SATNAV on Motorways |
|
I've only had my '56 D3 HSE for a couple of weeks. In previous vehicles I have used portable SATNAV devices without a problem.
In my D3 with Navigation activated, I find that when passing EVERY motorway junction (and there are quite a few around the M25) the nice lady invites me to "Bear right, onto the M25". Well thanks madam, but I KNOW THAT!! Meanwhile stop inturrupting my phonecalls!
I would MUCH prefer her to keep quiet until I have to actually execute manoeuvre, ie leave/join a motorway or make a turn. Instead, I find myself 'tuning out' the SATNAV voice, in the same way as when the 'other' navigator is in the passenger seat so one day soon I will no doubt go the wrong way!
My question: Is it possible to change the preference settings so that the SATNAV will keep 'schtumm' on the motorway until there is REALLY something to do??
With usual apologies if this topic has been done to death before, but I plead 'newbie'.

An 06 HSE should have the voice activation function (I think)
Flick the lever, wait for the beep and Listening in the LCD display, claerly say "Navigation, voice guidance OFF" - pronounce OFF as AUF
To turn it back on, same process, "Navigation, voice guidance ON"
She used to annoy me to hell - interesting bit on the news or footie and up she pipes
Voice will come on even when off to warn of events
Sat Nav booklet details all other commands
Welcome and enjoy

Thanks for your reply Adam.
I know there is a way of silencing the SATNAV completely, but I was really looking for a way to stop her perpetually telling me to "Stay on the M25" when passing EVERY junction when that was blindingly obvious. However I WOULD like her to pipe up when it is time to LEAVE the motorway. I'll have another look at the book as you suggest.
Meanwhile I was disappointed/surprised to see that the Heathrow T5 junction off the M25 was not depicted on the 2007/8 Nav disc.... not on my copy anyway.

Well at least yours has you on the correct roads.
I seem to get random routes made by mine to get me lost.
With my old TomTom, on the parts of the route I knew (leaving home and returning home) it would always direct me the way I would have driven anyway, but not my D3.
Regardless of what road preferences I select, it always picks odd routes, back roads and long ways round (rural lincolnshire).
Yes I get to unknown destinations, but I have no confidence in the fact that I could not have got there an hour earlier and with £20 more diesel left in the tank. Don't worry..... it only seems Kinky the first time you do it!

My SATNAV coming out of London on the A1 used to want to take me off at the south mimms at the M25 Jkt to then take me back on at the other side of the roundabout
I made a back up copy of the disk and now run that and it takes me straight down the A1
I know what you mean about Lincolnshire though

I had not had mine long when I had to drive to Norwich - on the way back, with time on my hands, I just followed instructions to the letter - I do recall seeing a lot of Lincolnshire - heavens knows where I was half of the time - quite enjoyed it actually

Quite agree - can't bring myself to give up using my TomTom, despite the inbuilt system in my 2008 HSE. Two reasons - one as above (the strange routing) and secondly on the TomTom I have the subscription based traffic data via my mobile phone - which unlike TMC is actually pretty useful! (57) 2008 HSE
