Hi there,
I do a bit for South East 4x4 Response and we do anything from delivering Meals on Wheels to the elderly, transporting emergency callout personnel to their HQ, taking nurses & Doctors to Hospital, recovering stranded vehicles, assisting the local search & rescue teams search for missing people, working with the County Council assisting their needs, marshalling at public events, even towing hundreds of cars out of the mudbath car parks in the Isle of Wight festival last year after a downpour just to mention a few....
It is not as easy as just signing up and starting, most, if not all groups expect induction training, vehicle and driver assessment, insurance checks and sometimes CRB checks before they let you out on the public, but it is very rewarding. I'd contact your local group and go to a meeting to find out more http://www.peak4x4response.org

About 8 of us (BORG) turned out to deliver meals-on-wheels around the south Bucks area. Some of us took the meals in our own vehicles, others escorted the vans to provide assistance if required.Nick
