Just more piece of mind though really, cos I had a windscreen fault which was noted on its PDI, and now a dying battrey. When I spoke to the dealer last week he said he would sort the windscreen as the chip is getting bigger, and the battrey he would honour as its only covered 3k since purchase.

LRA warrenty does'nt cover the Battrey, so I guess the extra piece of mind supplied by Barretts has saved me the cost of the Battrey and windscreen excess.

Me too, LRA Techy said it sounds like the Vanes/Bearings on the turbo, or could be the vacuum leading to/from, but either way he is recommending replacement turbo and nothing less as the turbo is probably now damaged.

Seems wierd that such a major componant is so weak, just covering 30k miles and needs replacing.

Just a word of advice though for all those thinking of doing the EGR plates whilst in warrenty, the Techy checked to see if I had without any prompting saying they would have walked away if they had been blanked Whistle

I remember reading it in the other post about the turbo's, it is indeed the VNT/VGT actuator mechanism that sticks and causes the fault on D3's.

They dont even need to be particularly stiff to move either, to cause the fault... Shocked

Shocked looks like I will be without the D3 for a while then with the TURBO back order fiasco. Big Cry

Still, never mind. Its being collected tomorrow by LRA, and unsure what happens next. More concerned though that will the dealer do, or can they do a cheap quick fix, or replace the unit. Question

What Happens Next ?

Ok, some may have spotted my thread with the troubles on my D3 with TURBO failure Big Cry , With that issue in hand I need info on what happens now.

LRA are arranging the collection of the D3 tomorrow, leaving me without the motor for however long. Do I get a replacement as a matter of fact, or do I have to make ripples within the network.

I need to know the facts really as to not want to be a thorn in their side, I aint too bothered what I get really as long as it arrives shortly after the D3 is collected.

I Have LRA assist, and Dealership warrenty till April.

Maybe I am jumping the gun and is organised by LRA, but they have'nt yet called as promsed with the plan for tomorrow, and SWMBO has hospital appointment tomorrow

Usually you have to let LRA know that you want a car - either tell the LRA engineer you will need a car or call LRA and advise them of this. They will then arrange for Enterprise (usually) to call you and arrange a car for you.

Car should/will be organised via LRA and you should get a call from Enterprise. Thumbs Up

Dont be concerned about being a PITA, you pay your money and should get the service. If you dont, call them and ask whats happening. Thumbs Up

This seems to be a problem with most vehicles fitted with this type of turbo, it is possible to clean them out, my brother recently had one cleaned for £70+ VAT the engineer said the problem is the mid range in the vane mechanism clogs up leaving the turbo stuck in the open or closed position which then causes the running faults

well mid range does'nt ring true in my case, I wait for all the lights t go out on the dash, glow plugs given a few extra seconds too, as soon as its started the "i" Engine System Fault appears, that canny be mid range, its just ticking over with a squeak from Turbo. Was told not to restart and wait for recovery.

Cheers Guys Thumbs Up , Nowt will happen till tomorrow cos of the holidays, and I guess the call from LRA wont be till tomorrow either as they have no timings on collect mine till tomorrow.

When/if LRA call me I will ask the question, aint too bothered what they supply TBH, but another car is a must as we are due back to work Monday, and for sure mine wont be fixed for a while Whistle

As boost pressure on a VGT is regulated by the impeller when the middle part of the mechanism gets clogged with soot etc the restricts the movement of the vanes your turbo could be jammed in a full or close to full boost position giving poor running at low speed because it is not spinning up to provide the boost needed at low engine revs, if it was stuck at the other end of its travel then this would end up with too high a boost pressure and would normally result in ECU going into limp mode. if the mid vane position is clogged it restricts the full movement of the vanes and then causes problems.

Sorry to hear it's your turbo!!
But I'm still questioning why these faults appear alongside low voltage starts, like yours and mine has.

Re Cleaning the turbo
You didn't read that link I posted you did you?

Turbo Technics can now clean the speed control mechanisms of many of these turbos and re-set them to the original factory calibration

Good luck in your dealer sourcing a Turbo, cos they are on back order with no delivery dates from LR.
But, I know where there's one if they want it Whistle

Yes Thumbs Up But a dealer will take the easy route and fit a new or recon one

My brother has had this problem twice on his VW . The turbo was replaced under warranty at 25k when it first happened, it has just gone again at 60k vehicle is out warranty so he took it to a very helpful turbo specialist who advised that they generally just need cleaning and only ocassionally need an overhaul. £70 for a clean and £200-250 for a overhaul
