I think someone else has had the same problem but I can't find the post.
My wife reversed off the drive this morning, put the car into drive and nothing, could not rev the car or move it all all, tried all gears nothing engine just on tick over.
Luckily I was home, tried it, nothing. Restarted and the fault cleared.
She also thinks there may have been a loss of power for a split second last night.
Now of course my wife is very wary of driving it as she has a 10 mile journey along country roads to and from work.
Any pointers before I hit the dealer?

You did'nt use the radio on trick to fire the pre-heater did you? this has been reported as an issue related to running the pre-heater for too long.

After the FBH has run sometimes it takes a few seconds before the engine will rev. Have tried the restart or just letting idle for 10-15 secs, I just wait! D4 HSE

Cliff - You're coming on BN's newbie day aren't you? We will have to compare menus as mine is an '06 S Auto and I can use the timer trick.

Hi Yes I'm the one with the similiar problem, it took my dealership 3 times to have the LR assist to transport it to them.
The good news is they fixed it, how unknown, but I do know that they had to contact LR tech.
Push your dealer to contact LR Tech

Hi Dave
Was yours a recurring problem and would it clear with a restart?

Hi YES to both, But the problem only happened when the weather was cold, i.e. an overnight frost.

Hi, I reported this too. Started happening regularly, including whilst going around corners, so I booked it in at the dealers. They loaded the latest software and "adjusted" the gear linkages (don't know what they did, picked it up on a Saturday when there were no mechanics around). One or both of these appear to have fixed the problem. No longer a D3 owner but still subscribed to multiple threads!
