I dont know if this has been posted before, so apologies if it has
Everyone should check before their warranty runs to see if
when the engine is running and the brake pedal has a lot of pressure on it,
the pedal eventually goes to the floor. Under normal driving conditions
the brakes work fine.
It could be an expensive fix when the car is out of warranty. Pete

I had similar symptoms after my last service. I took it back and the dealer installed a new master cylinder. That worked fine until yesterday (so about ten days worth) and then yesterday as I was nearing home (having been using the brakes a fair amount), the pedal went to the floor. A couple of quick pumps and it was okay again - but it'll have to go in for another check. It looks like a serious situation with my brake system at least. It looks it wasn't the master cylinder after all.

Norto, I too have had this sinking feeling, but it has been intermittent. What exactly is the cause? I was informed by my dealers that it was not an issue. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

I have only spoken to the dealer briefly and
he is concerned about the problen.
I think its brake fluid leaking past the piston in the master cylinder
caused by contamination in the vacuum cylinder Pete

I have just noticed the same today on my car, the brakes work perfect but when you sit with engine at idle and press the brake pedal hard it goes down to the floor. I remember reading somewhere that this could be a leaking servo.. ???

Mine has been taken in to the Taunton Land Rover workshop where it has been for 12 days. They have been in touch with LR technical department who, after a week's head scratching have offered the problem to LR Engineering.
They have no solution so far.
Any other ideas from across the forum?

Noticed this on my first D3. If you applied constant pressure to the pedal when stationary (not particularly hard, just constant), the pedal would reach the bulkhead. Always fine in use.
Service Mgr checked it & declared it normal. Something to do with the way the system works (insert TFC technical solution here please!) Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
