Andy,
The two covers come to no more than £60 and are easy to do yourself. Not sure on the price of the compressor though.
Reading through your original post, it sounds a lot like the way ours went...Jacking damage causing bad vibrations when the compressor is working.
Does the air suspension still work with no codes? If so, then you will need the two covers and replace them. You will probably find the alloy bracket has snapped forcing the compressor to operate next to the chassis. This is what causes the vibration and loud noise when the air compressor is working.
Replace the covers yourself (no more than one hour) and save a packet...
Ours went back yesterday as there was a vibration when the compressor come on...turns out the mechanic had pinched the rubber mount up too much hence the compressor had no movement and hence was droning against the alloy bracket and therefore the chassis making the noise a lot louder and pronounced.

Are you sure you need a new compressor? You'd have to be very unlucky to damage the compressor by just jacking it up.
new Bracket + new bottom cover ran me for ~ US$150 (not sure what the current exchange rate is, I'd say £75).
Edit: Ok, saw that someone else made the mistake.... Well, make sure you keep the air compressor for parts since it's working fine. Not sure what's involved in replacing a compressor, I tried (but gave up quickly) to remove what appear to be push-in connections to/from the aircompressor without success.
