Merzouga to Zagora
Was wondering if anybody has driven this piste recently. We are driving this, amongst other pistes and I needed to know if the heavy rainfalls have affected it's passibility especially in the Remlia area and also the beginning of the track leaving Merzouga. Last time I was there (last October) there was a lot of damage caused by the rain and we lost many hours trying to find the 'new' piste in places.
We will be there end of February. Will also be doing Lake Iriki, the Draa Valley, Tan-Tan plage and chillin' out in Essouira.

Morocco, and pistes I think refers to dried up lake/river beds that make good roads when they are not flooded.

That was funny! Then again, SA is hosting '10 World Cup so they have the right to pre-occupied with themselves!
FYI - Am I right in thinking it was you that drove your previous D3 back on bump-stops last time in Morocco? (my memory's not what it used to be...) If so, you should see about this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic30193.html or did you end up getting that EAS Kicker?

phurley, yep, I drove my old D3 out of the dunes at Erg Chebbi on it's bump stops. My mate followed me out in his D3. Once we got to Merzouga, mine reset itself and his dropped on its belly! So I followed him all the way back to Spain watching his poor D3 hit every tiny little bump in the road. We vowed never to go back to Morocco with a Discovery 3.
That was October 2007 and I went back in Feb 2008 with the same car and ZERO problems. My mate sold his and bought a Defender!
We were to blame really as we were friggin' about with shortened suspension sensor rods.
BTW I have the official SA World cup shirt complete with the 3/4 length sleeves. I bought it at Jo'burg airport last September on my honeymoon They will be my favourite after England and Brazil (wife's home team 8) )

RLD, did you see the masses of pink flamingos in the estuary at the end of the beach run? We were lucky enough to watch them while we eat fresh fish caught and served up by the local fisherman. A truly beautiful place

AndrewS, just wanted to know what the current status was. Some friends are doing it and waiting for me in Zagora. Due to school holidays/ work commitments we will be in two groups separated by 2 days. The first group are less experienced and one of the cars is a Freelander 2. I am in the second group and have done this piste 6 or 7 times. I was just worried for the first group that they might encounter difficulties, although the Freelander 2 made it through 18 months ago. He did breakdown on the way back though on the motorway With so much bashing to his underside and fuel tank, the fuel pump worked lose and failed Passing the dry river just past Remlia is a bit of a drama if you can't find the correct passing point! We were stuck in that hell hole of powder fine dust for abut 2 hours. A RR P38 ripped his roofrack clean off when he tried following me and launched the car 2 metres into the air!
