These are places in South East Morocco. Merzouga is the town next to Erg Chebbi which is the closest group of African dunes to us Europeans. A piste is a french word meaning a track or trail. Most North and West African countries were under French colonial rule for a few hundred years, hence the widespread use of French.

Yep! From the top floor of my house I can see the Er Rif mountain range across the Straights. We are very lucky to be so close. I feel sorry for those coming all the way down from UK before they can get to Africa. It's a bloody long drive down!
