| 'Driver's Door Open' message |

Occasionally, and despite the driver's door most definitely being closed, I get the above message and the usual cacophony of bings and b  dy bongs.
It usually happens most frequently after I've been playing in the mud.
It can be cured by either opening and closing the door a couple of times or, as my lad found, by cleaning the door lock mechanism and striker plate with a cloth.
Is there a micro switch or similar in the mechanism that sensors 'door open' that I can check for dirt or wear & tear etc with an eye to replacement or is this a 'back to the dealer' job?

Yes, the 'door ajar' sense is driven by a microswitch in the door latch assembly. ISTR the latch assembly is stamped together, so not serviceable - although using a penetrating spray might work.
As to whether the latch assembly is owner-replaceable, that depends on the skills & motivation. It's a fairly difficult job. The trim panel, speaker, window glass (which requires a special tool to activate the glass latch), glass guide channel, window motor and cable assembly, lock cylinder & exterior door handle all need to be removed to remove the latch assembly. 
Perhaps continue with the clean-cloth approach?

I've given it a hose through with penetrating spray (or would switch cleaner work better?) and hopefully it'll be OK until I can take it to the dealer and see if the extended warranty covers it.
May be I need to stop taking it through water, mud etc....  - no chance ! I see no ships........

I had a similar problem yeaterday... Although the door was obviously closed the horn beeped when I tried to lock the car, I gave the door another slam but it still beeped. Just shrugged and went to pick up my son... When I got in the car and closed the door the message centre indicated that the drivers door was still open. It's ok now but may be a sign of things to come. I might try the 'penetrating spray' myself tomorrow... on the lock that is  As you slide down the banister of life
