Dealer useless even before buying a car ! |
|
With the massive discounts to be had at the moment we have been mulling over the idea of buying a FFRR TDV8, selling the wife's car and her taking over the D3.
On a separate note a friend has suggested that we buy one of the new G4 D3s that are coming up in the Land rover closed auction, between us, and kick of on an 'adventure' for 3 months.
Decided to go to a dealers yesterday and make some inquiries. I wanted to know what the differences between a Vouge and a Vouge SE were (as they keep changing) and also see if we could arrange some deal on one of the G4 cars.
Our local dealer has closed down so I checked the next nearest on the LR site, gave them a call to make sure they were open on a Sunday and off we went.
When we get there the showroom is not only closed but empty!
No sign on the door but a security guard who said "they have moved but I don't know where" Great. So I call again and the girl answers the phone with the company name, blah, blah etc and tells me "Oh, we have moved to such and such a show room and their calls are routed here" 30 miles in the other direction
So I get the grumps and decide to go home but on the way the wife points out that we haven't got much else to do so we drive on and end up at the dealers other showroom.
So we say hello to the receptionist and wait for a salesman to become free. Can't get a coffee because the machine is jammed up.
After some 20 mins a salesman becomes free and we sit down, swap cards etc. and I explain my situation and ask about the G4s.
HIM: Don't know anything about the auction.
ME: What do you think they will make?
HIM: No idea. Silence.
As we don't seem to be going anywhere with the G4s I decided to try an easier question.
Me: what is the difference between a RR Vouge and a Vouge SE ?
HIM: Trim mainly.
Then he gets up and goes and has a conversation with the customer he was serving before us.
So after driving 100 mile round trip I ended up going off the boil and may just bolt some bits on the D3 and keep the wifes car.
We were both presentably dressed and I am a cash buyer so he had no finance or PX to worry about. If he had taken the trouble to show us the RR and have a haggel I would probably have done a deal there and then. I also would have been quite happy to come to an arangement with him for a mark up on one of the G4s.
I purchased my D3 via a broker and as its first service isn't due yet I have not encountered LR sales / service before but this poor attitude and all the service problems posted here certainly makes me wonder ...... .

I guess first showroom being closed should have been a big clue as to how efficient they are/were.

I am tempted but times are hard and I wouldn't like to think I had contributed to getting someone the sack!
I think the problem was more of a 'don't give a ' attitude in the whole dealership rather than the one guy. .

How about an overnight stay down at TLO, Yeovil, Premier Inn just a walk away and I'm sure he'll cover the cost if you buy one !

Do FFRR owners stay in premier inns? I would have thought they would require more stars in a hotel than that I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

The pub they use for the Yeovil Area Meet is sooo much nicer in a quant rural pub like way. Excellent food & beer too. Not much more expensive than the Premier Inn/Travel Lodge type Bodsys Brake Bible

Maybe I'll just go down to Yeovil and stay at the pub for a few days and forget all about spending money.
Just rang another dealership that a friend just recommended. The named contact he gave me is on a course for 3 days and no other salesmen are available!
Maybe we should all chip in and open a LR dealership. It seems like if you just talked to customers you would be 2 steps ahead of the game. .

Mason Arms at Odcombe, about 5 minutes drive from the dealership. Well worth having a chat with Keiron and the team at Yeovil I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
