Base model radio cd unit overheating! |
|
Hi i have just bought a 2005 Disco 3 TDV6 manual base model.I do like the car but one niggle, everytime i turn up the volume reasonably loud the system cuts out and the display reads "system overheated".If i leave it 20 minutes it will turn on again.Very annoying when listening to a favourite track!Any ideas?
Thanks
Pete

Its knackered!!!
Base audio units are very known for being fragile and flakey - I'm on my 3rd in this D3,previous D3 got through 3 as well.
Guess you are out of warranty so decision time:
1. Phone LRCS and try for a good will contribution for replacement
OR
2. Fit Universal non OEM unit as several others have done on here, you lose the audio controls on the steering wheel (if fitted) but you get a much better quality sound and more features re connectivity of external devices (ipod/SD card/USB etc..._

There is the 6 disc unit on ebay removed from a 2005 from a breaker ,is it likely to be better?

You cannot fit the up spec 6 disc unit to a base D3 - believe me many of us have wanted to
Unlike the base D3 which has an actual Radio/CD unit the upspec 6 disc is just a head unit and relies on a separate amplifier and a whole load of software driven gizmology that the base D3 just does not have or is not capable of supporting. The wiring looms on the base D3 also do not have the required wiring fitted as standard.
Sorry but is a no then!!

did you have the heater on full heat at the same time? If so did the same in my D3, had a new one fitted, now I can tell when the plastic starts to expand, you hear a slight crack of the shrowd, then I turn the heater down slightly..... funny these things u get to know about yer own D3

Hi ,no heater wasn't on at all!But you can hear a crack every now and then! If i have the volume normal it's fine and will work all day,its just if i crank it up loud it lasts around 2 minutes and shuts off!

I had the heating on today in my 08 D3. When I ejected a cd it was really hot, almost too hot to handle m1ke's Photos on Flickriver

well when it first did it,i was trying to work out what i had done differently,ie had i got the heat directing to the footwells rather than the vents etc but heater on or off it does the same! But yes the whole unit feels hot!How much is a new unit and will it be any better?
