Auto headlight

Does anyone know where the light sensor for the auto light setting is? My headlights will come on when it's light and sometimes won't until it's really dark if that makes sense, I was driving on the motorway in the rain and they turned off yet on my way home no rain clear sky they came on. IT's DRIVING ME MAD..HELP!!!

I think the sensor is fitted with the rain sensor in the rear view mirror bit.

Thanks Bravo i'll check it out - see if there's some dirt or something causing it's erratic operation.

Correct - the sensor is mounted below the mirror. A dirty windscreen does impact operation to an extent.
