Text alerts: 6230 cradled in factory PTI.

Maybe someone with longer term experience of this phone in the factory PTI can help me out.
I get a lot of texts and am getting tired of having to remember to lift the lid to look at the phone display, especially when driving. I can't find a car profile on the phone that I can customise, and the text alert is on the loudest thing I can find.
However I never hear the text alert leading me to believe the car profile turns it off. Short of taking the phone out of the cradle and bluetoothing it, any suggestions?

Does the same with mine too.

If you look closely at the IHU display, you will see that there is an icon for messages. Clearly there was some intention for this to work, though actually reading and writing SMS messages is only possible on the Range Rover, apparently.

No, it's just there (but never lights up) if you look closely in the bottom right of the IHU LCD.
